Awesome mouse. I purchased two of them. We took these to a 3rd world nation and the computer shop geeks were totally blown away by the range of this mouse. As one of them actually left the computer shop and the others watched the laptop screen with the cursor still moving, their eyes got bigger than their belly buttons. It had a consistent range of more than 10 yards [yes, yards, not feet!] and most people found that quite shocking.
I like the sensitivity of this mouse, the price was awesome, and they are both going strong. It is a bit petite...so for my wife and her friends it was absolutely perfect. If you have big hands, you might want to consider the Logictech Revolution... both are my favorites.
I have this. Usable. Not great in my opinion. Pros: Great Range, Comfortable in hand, works well with Receiver (+1GB memory) Cons: Charging cable does not stay in position, if you using the mouse at same time. Questionable battery life in Bluetooth mode. Was not able to connect in Ubuntu in Bluetooth mode. Needs a mouse pad to work properly (sensitive to surface?)

The charging cable on our 8000's work perfect. We both have used the mouse on smooth and even glassy surfaces and it works perfect. Zero, you may have received a defective mouse or a lemon. You may want to consider turning it in for a new one.
