Well reviewed Hitachi EC119SA 4 gallon, 2.5 HP, 4 CFM twin stack air compressor at Lowe's on clearance, reg $259 now 50% off. There were two in stock at my local (Myrtle Beach, SC) store. big YMMV, but it's a great deal on a very quiet, powerful compressor. I'd been looking for a deal on a nailer/compressor combo, but the cheapo ones did not impress with reviews, and this way I don't have to repurchase quality hose, fittings, etc.
Lowe's doesn't have it online anymore, but here it is for your perusal...Link

God I need this....I have tenants moving in their stuff already and my Campbell Housfield died on me. BTW, CH is a POS. I barely used that thing to brad nail in some toe molding, and it dies in two years.

I love Hitachi and Lowes - hopefully, this will work out for me!

TIA,
Farhood

good find. great product.

This thing is hefty - 64 lbs, whereas cheap ones weigh about 20 lbs. Every respectable seller has it for $300+, so this is a good deal if you can find one. Now, there isn't a good way to check stock at local stores, is there?

Thanks OP! Please post the SKU #.

Found the item #.

Keep in mind that Lowes is extremely inconsistent with their clearances. As a matter of fact, most if not all (I can check 4 stores easily in person) never have any of the clearance items posted here on actual clearance. They just like to knock few $$$ off and that's it. This is in CT, HArtford.

The store near me has 3 but ya apparently the price is $259 any chance we can get a copy of the receipt in hopes of a PM

I just got back from the Canton, OH Lowes (on The Strip). It was listed as $259. I asked someone near by to price check. There was 3 in stock (another on display). It's listed as $259 - but also a Nonstock item. When I went online to check stock it wasn't listed. I asked if he would price match 50% off. He called his manager who told him that they would have to call the SC store for verification, and that they would have to have it in stock. I started to leave, but came back in. I used my iPhone to search for Lowes in Myrtle Beach, SC. I called three separate places until I finally found the one store that had it 50% off (it's the store south of the beach - not west or on the beach). I ran to the tool guy who in turn talked to the SC guy. He reaffirmed that it was 50% off, and they had one on the shelf.

I got it for 50% off (plus tax). Thanks for the heads up.

While there I decided to buy a Finish Nailer. The same guy who helped my get the compressor at 50% off just marked down a Bostitch Finish Nailer - 16 Ga - 1"-2 1/2" length FN16250K-2 - item# 64875 - original $169 marked down to $84.50.

It is very easy to price match clearance items at Lowes to another Lowes. If you know what store has it on clearance, have the CSR call that store and verify price. They will then sell it for that price.

I wish that was the case here in Tallahassee, Florida...

I went too one Lowe's only to have it confirmed at $259. I asked if they would pricematch another store (out of state), and they said no.

I called the other Lowe's in town while in the parking lot, and they verified it was instock also at $259.

I went ahead and spent $125 on a refurbished Bostich on Amazon.

Maybe it will go nationwide soon...?

totally not the case in CT stores. The ass floor manager said that "we don't match clearance price in another store".

This depends on the store and who you ask. Some will do it, some will not.

I'm in SC and found 3 at my store, on clearance for.........$220.00 ha, a joke.

Whats so great about this compressor btw?

Do you have to have regulated pressure to do nailing or will a regular air compressor with a hose connection work also?

Well, this thread stopped cold in its tracks.

Most guns run in the 90-110psi range just fine. More than that and you're just adding wear and tear to your gun.

Checked Bellevue and Issaquah in WA, and both had them for $259.

If it is on clearance in some stores, then it is being discontinued, right? Knowing that stores don't carry big inventory, why don't the other stores start clearancing it soon?

Stores in Austin said they weren't clearancing it yet because they had so many on hand, 10 at one store. I asked about a price match to another store out of state and they said they could go as low as $175.

A few stores in Cincinnati area have these.... @ 220. Since it's a clearence item, they won't match other stores. Might have a better chance if I can get a scanned copy of someone's receipt... Anyone who got this deal willing to help? please...
TIA

I found one this weekend at a store that I'd checked when this was first posted but they'd not yet changed the price. They now have it marked down to $142.45 - the 10% Lowes coupon = $128.21. Might check again at some of the stores that had stock but weren't yet discounted.

It's a nice little compressor. Puts out lots of air for the size (4.4 cfm @ 90 psi) and recycle is quick. The motor must be made from uranium. The thing weighs a ton! They say 65 lbs but it feels like 80 when you're lugging it around. Nice that it's solid made but I'd hate to have to haul it around much. I strapped it to an old hand truck - I think it may just stay there. lol

Scored one today @ 129.50 - 10% coupon = $116.55 + Tax.
The same store, last week, had it for $220

What location??

Can anyone be kind post their receipt, please? My local Lowes only has one, but refuses to discount it.

They had 1 more left, on a high top rack.

If anyone's planning to buy refurbished, Hitachi's official RepairCenter is 'outsourced' to Reconditioned Sales. They sell refurbs for $139 plus shipping. With a 10% off coupon it comes pretty close to the Lowes price, with the same 1 yr warranty.
Item Total: $139.00
Discount/Adjustment: ($13.90)
Subtotal: $125.10

total newbie here on compressor and power tools... but will this be good enough for a impact wrench to work on cars?

It should be fine for impact wrenches, even if you use it quite a lot.

And many thanks to cubesco for the receipt scan!

Tried to get one in MA. They said that there is no way they can match to OH, and that it is a different market zone. I do not get it. How is it possible for one Lowe's not to match the other if you have the receipt. Very frustrating...

Last week, while I was at the store, I tried talking to the manager to see if he would sell for lower than the $220 this was marked at.
He was quite willing to look into it. He did mention at even at $220, it was "below cost".
He also explained that once it's on clearance, AND if the store has only 1 piece left, it's upto the store to decide the price.
Since they had 2 pieces, he could not adjust prices.

Yesterday, the same store had marked it down to $129.50

Lowe's says it's 1.6 HP, which is a lot more realistic because a 15A, 120VAC outlet can't put out more than 2.4 HP. OTOH that 4 CFM rating is at 100 PSI, which is pretty good

Did you follow proper break-in procedures? I've heard that oil-free compressors are more likely to fail if you don't. And because C-F isn't good about carrying spare parts for long, buy a head gasket and set of Teflon piston rings when the thing is new. I've been told that the aluminum cylinder walls don't wear much. My "3.5" HP C-F from the 1990s still works fine, and I've painted three cars with it.

It will run an impact wrench or gun for limited use. Good enough to quickly hit a fastener to break it free but 4 gallons isn't much capacity so it will be recycling quite a bit. Just to see what it could do I used mine last week to pull the rear bumper off of an old truck using a 1/2" IR gun that's rated at about 4.something SCFM @ 90 PSI. 6 large rusty bolts/nuts that weren't moving. Worked fine but I had to wait on it some and it would recycle after less than a minute of beating on the fastener. Recycle is fairly quick so not too bad but not like having a big tank where you can just keep going after it and it was easy to get ahead of it to the point that the gun didn't have much power if I didn't slow down and wait. OK for occassional use on wheel lugs/bolts, etc. if you don't mind taking your time but not really what you'd want if you'd be running it all day long for things like that.

Do you think this may work better with an external tank like this one?
Use standalone compressor for nailing & portability, use storage tank for running impact wrenches etc.

FYI ...

Hitachi makes great tools but as the OP states this is NOT a powerful compressor. This is a specialty compressor NOT used for auto work. It only puts of a measly 4+ CFM. this is more tailored toward roofers and not the most general tasks such as working on your car.

If you can get this compressor at the stated price then get it ... but shop elsewhere if you want a general purpose (does everything) compressor. Also, DO NOT get a maintenance free compressor. Get one that uses oil as a lubricant. Yes, you have to change the oil every once-in-a-while but it will last a LONGGGGGG time. My unit has lasted me 15 years.

Crap... just realized that this thread is a month old. Sold out everywhere in GA, as best as I can tell.

Not worth bothering with. You'll blow through 10 gallons in no time too then you'd just have to fill the thing up again. Faster and easier to just run it as it comes and wait on it.

Unfortunately, most of the less expensive compressors marketed for auto work these days don't put out much if any more air and in many cases they put out less. To get something that does you'll be closer to the $500-$1,000 range. The only advantage that the typical less expensive Sears, Husky, etc., compressor has is a larger tank. The catch with the larger tank though is that with a lame ~1.5 motor like most of those come with you'll have to wait forever for it to recycle back up to useable pressure. I think I'd almost rather have the Hitachi versus some of them that I've used. At least it seems well built, honestly rated, and has the guts to get back up to power fairly quickly.

My store in CO had only one left, but they wouldn't discount it. The manager was visibly bothered by the fact that I brought a copy of a receipt from OH store, even though I never asked for a price match. I simply informed them that most stores had been clearing it out, and had asked if he would do the same at his personal discretion. Manager, still irked, responded smarta$$-ly that it wasn't his personal store. I couldn't say anything but thank him for his time.

Is/was it clearanced anywhere else in CO/WY?

The Lowe's in Mantua NJ had 3 in stock today marked down to just under $90.
