Thanks OP,

Just curious what kind of crack they are on with a suggested retail of $649?
I was expecting to see a full touch screen with all the bells & whistles.

Oh and the sd card slot limit of 512mb?...that's useless

I wonder what the limit of the usb port is?....oops I found it ....4gb. That's a little better.

I'm not sure but with all the great features like the 3 pre amp outputs at 5V.
That makes this price really good. I couldn't find one unit under $200 with just does
options.

Jesus H. C.! No matter how good the offer is, there's always someone whining that it's not the exact thing they were looking for. Moreover, in this instance any HD receiver priced at $100 + change will sound like a cat in a garbage can when compared to this JVC with a Bongiovi Acoustics signal processor.

Yes, the number of preamps are nice

JVC publishes what they verify, the 4GB isn't a true limit. It's usually a 500mV limit on power drawn from the USB port. The Western Digital Passport drives work, some have had very large drives attached to JVC head units with no problem. The key is not to daisy chain the USB cables, get one cable that's long enough to fit in the glove box/console where the drive will be.

actually just 2 of the preamps are 5v... the sub out is 2v:/

It's apparently got a custom DSP to enhance sound. This unit is for audiophiles, not technophiles like myself. (Whereas I would prefer a touchscreen, HD radio, GPS, etc - an audiophile would prefer the pre-amps, sound processor and the ability to customize the sound based on the environment.)

Here is a good review. Not for me, but probably a good deal for those that appreciate this sort of thing!

Nice find OP. Tempted to upgrade my JVC, but it keeps plugging along. Hard to find 3 pre-amp outs, the DSP, and the USB at a pricepoint even close to this. Personally I don't want touch screen when driving. Let me set it all up in advance the way I like it and then give me a big volume knob so I can keep my eyes on the road.

http://www.Buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=210610342 is the best i can find w/ all the features for a good price. I purchased it 6 months ago and its fantastic. HD Radio makes a HUGE difference IMO.

So, does the the DSP work on the preamps too, I'm looking through the Crutchfield research,
and it seems to be indicating that it is for the onboard amplifier.

any ideas?

Thicker short, shielded usb cables will provide the best results. I personally use a 80gb 2.5in drive with my head unit.

I JUST finished installing this and, for what it's worth, it sounds better than a four-year-old Alpine 9845 that's been mildly abused.

It's kind of a pain to program and I wish they had included dedicated radio preset buttons, but overall I think it's a decent stereo for the money.

The reason it doesn't come with presets is because it comes with the Bongiovi Acoustic.
Each car setup is different and you are suppose to costumize it to your own car.

"The KD-S100 is not available as an off-the-shelf model. It can only be purchased through dealers--usually only on new cars. Bongiovi representatives say this is because each vehicle needs to be tuned individually"

Thanks! Thinking of getting one. Just got my car stereo stolen for the SECOND time, so I'd like to get in on this deal. My question is how you are supposed to program it to your car? I have a Honda Prelude, discontinued. Is it not going to programmable for my car?
