I've been using their block accounts for about a year and they have been solid except for a couple of short outages. I realize 1GB is fluff to most but it might be OK for those just starting out.
Basically a place for everything from high-level discussion to debates to flame wars to trolling and comparing others to Hitler/Nazis. Don't forget the spam and the anti-consumerism.

From the looks of this discussion, noone uses usenet for its actually "good" things. You can download things at top speed, way better than torrents.
Ah... you're correct. That article on Fudzilla about the RIAA trying to take down Usenet.com must have left an impression on me. Thanks for the clarification.

hee..hee...I agree. You could search for many more "useful" items

Don't forget the racism, sexism, homophobia, and general xenophobia.
Since most of the major ISP's dropped usenet, the number of discussions regarding anything has gone way down. Lots of formerly heavy traffic groups are pretty much now a ghosttown.

Weird, google still offers free usenet access
How about binaries though? that's the important thing

you gotta keep up with the time grandpa, these days we don't download headers anymore (or even use a 'news client' for that matter)
I used newsgroups and downloaded some pron about 10-12 yrs ago but haven't touched usenet since. I tried searching for a few things today and was not able to find any of the things I download using torrents. You may be able to download at full bandwidth but what good is it if you can't find what you're looking for ? I find even the most obscure things using torrents.
Excellent free softwares and other great selections like nude hairy chicks

Usenet was excellent prior to 1994, when America Online gave their users access. Before that, most Usenet participants were either people at colleges or technical staff at companies. AOL created a massive influx of, to put it politely, less sophisticated users.
Once AOL had destroyed Usenet, they decided to stop offering access in 2005. Despite that, I don't think Usenet will ever recover its former glory.

nzbmatrix tvnzb
Both have TONS more stuff than I've ever found on torrents.
My current obsession is Documentaries. A ton of stuff from the BBC. Stuff that only 1-2 people in the world might be interested in so that torrents would never work.

I've heard this rumor, but it has been proven as false. my question is how do you know what "info" is safe?

I signed up with nzbmatrix (free account) and did a search. It found almost nothing I was looking for. I then searched using Binsearch and Newzleech and still didn't find what I was searching for.

1G is overkill if all you want are text groups.
Here! Here! And It's great for us Comcast folks that had a price increase coupled with the elimination of usenet service.

Newzbin account plus SABnzb+
How do you get a newzbin account? I could not find a place to register. It says: "Please accept our apologies, but an invitation from a current member is required in order to register. If you have been sent an invitation, please use the link located in the email."
And is it (Newzbin) free or is that a paid service as well?
You answered your own question. You need to be invited by someone with an account.
Newzbin is free for the most part, but you can pay (pennies a day, if that) for added functionality.
Benefits of having a premium account:
* Retrieve report NZB (Message-ID) files as well as creating your own custom NZB (Message-ID) files. * The ability to view additional report information, including filenames, header subjects and NFO files. * Watchdog - The watchdog is a time-saving utility that will effectively watch all of the posts being created and notify/email you when it finds one matching the keywords you provide. * Add Newzbin reports to your Bookmarked Reports for quick reference of the posts you're interested in. * The ability to post comments using the Newzbin comment system. * Use of in-site Private Messaging to contact other users and site admins/editors. * Access to Filters and Grouplists, including custom categories with your favorite groups and the ability to exclude any group or subcategory from listings. * Access to our Usenet Files Database, listing almost every binary file posted to Usenet in the past 240 days, fully searchable, sortable and NZB'able. * Premium members can utilize the Vacation Freeze option to save your credits when you're away. * Reliable and quick Customer Service. * Any other features we add in future.
