I want it just to see all the ad's and deals. If I buy a car I always get that one only at this price, but I get there before they open looking at VIN # like 7:00 am
I do not live in LA but in Orange County. One day I see LA Times in front of my house so I just throw it in the trash bin. Weeks later I see a bill from LA Times with an account already setup under my name that I never agreed to. I called them and the lady told me that I must pay because after seeing that newspaper I must have called them letting them know that I did not want them. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she finally forgave my sin (throwing the paper in the trash bin). She then said in the future if I ever see their paper in front of my house again... I then said "but I do not want to ever see it again so why don't you make sure that I will never see it again?"

anxietykl said: new subscription? or can it be applied to a renewal as well? Thanks! I called, asked about offer but says it wasn't available to me, instead I got $52/year plus the $20 gift card...I think my mistake was that they asked if I received the offer from them, but I said it was from a friend, so I wasn't eligible.

I'm sure you'd just read some other biased media...there are no unbiased new sources, it's all about perspective.
I'm mainly in it for the coupons anyway, but I do like to contribute to "paper" news media, they still do great investigative work and much more reputable than most internet media outlets or worst, blogs.

Bad part- no coupons, no local news.

Take a read my friend scientific evidence of media bias...wall street journal included. Not such a bad thing though, I mean we're all humans, how can a human be unbiased? Sorry for being nit-picky...scientist here so I like to break false beliefs based on opinion and not fact.
One of the happiest days of my life was when I canceled my phone number the LA Times had. Stupid calls from unintelligible morons while I'm eating dinner offering deals that don't coincide with what I'm billed. I couldn't for the life of me get them to remove me from their call list, either. Burn in heck, LA Times.
Sorry to threadcrap, but the Times is one of the four or so companies for which I have ultimate disdain.

Duhmel - working at that customer service center in India, who knew you could even read...
No, seriously, they sell The Los Angeles Times in New Delhi?
I just kid, you know I love Duhmel and your comments - ones which have absolutely nothing to do with the posted deal or whether that deal has value.
Duhmel you even have a great name - it sounds like Spam made out of chick peas.
Irate Consumer
P.S. Back to the deal and not Duhmel's struggles to pass a literacy exam... I believe I am still paying either $65.00 or $35.00 a year for a full year of The Los Angeles Times - 7 days a week. I saw the deal a few years ago on Fatwallet.com. With the newspaper business doing so badly, The Los Angeles Times is basically giving away subscriptions in order to keep up their advertising rates.

Offer still available. My subscription just ended and they wanted me to pay $85 for a year for Thurs-Sun service. So I cancelled, called back and took advantage of this offer. Thanks OP.
I just called the LA times 1 800 252 9141 number offered off of their website to inquire about a new subscription, and this promo mentioned above...much to my dismay they had a third party company in the Philippines taking new subscription orders. (Don't you think it would be nice if you understood the person talking on the other end...especially for "New Subscriptions" !) Way to go La times way to think ahead.
That is a no go for me especially after reading the complaints mentioned above.
Do not, under any circumstances, give them a real phone number that someone can pick up. Instead, give them a Google Voice number, AOL mailbox number, or some other voice mail number. Otherwise, they will call you trying to re-up.
Just signed up (renewed existing subscription) without problem, thanks OP. $20 target card should arrive in 6 to 8 weeks according to the CSR (no foreign accent detected).
ETA: I called 1-800-252-9141 and asked for SP4371.

Offer still works. Target gift card should arrive between 10-20 business days. Thanks OP.
Offer is still good. Just signed up today. Called 800-252-9141 and used code SP4371. CSR appeared like she couldn't find this particular code in her system, and asked how I got the offer (mail, etc). She eventually gave me the offer, but if someone (OP?) could post in what form the offer came (radio ad, mailer, etc), then it would help others who want to subscribe and get asked the question. $39 for 1 year (Thu.-Sun.). The $20 Target gift card will take ***12*** weeks!
Just in case you're wondering. I asked how much to get the M-W addition. He said it would change to the non promo rate of $6/week. OMG are they crazy? LOL

I called and got this deal 2 weeks ago. Beware that there will be someone calling claiming that your credit card didn't work and ask for a new card number, even though charge actually went through. I've gotten 12 calls from same number phishing for my credit card number.

I was able to use the code today- was told the gift card would be sent out after 8 weeks of service. BTW it took several calls to get the deal.

beware, i got an envelope from LA times with a missing gift card. I gotta call them Monday morning. I suspect the person stuffing the envelopes are stealing them. Just in time for the holidays.

Same thing here...one day I got a bill fm LA Times saying to pay the subscription that I have been enjoying for several months now.
What? Never ordered any newspaper and never got one in front of my house. The Bill had my name with the wrong house number but correct Street. Got the mail only because the mail carrier knew the peeps around my area.
Checked the house number and saw it was even non-existent. Called their customer service and complaint abt it...took several attempts before it was finally rectified.
Not surprised their subscribers have steadily gone down in numbers. The only good thing going for them are the Sunday Ads which I buy once in awhile.

I just got my gift card today and the envelope was not sealed; the envelope flap was just folded into the envelope. I could not believe the contents did not fall out with all of the post-office handling. I suspect your card actually did fall out rather than someone at the Times stealing them. Good luck.
Call the original # given: 1-800-468-3705 1st time, it didn't ring anywhere. 2nd time (redial) it went to new subscription dept. Lady asked if I was calling for this promotion. I didn't even need to provide the offer code.
Watch out! -she said it renews automatically at the regular subscription rate.

FYI- I got the target gift card (2 $10 cards) around 10 days after I signed up
For those who actually read the paper for news, the LA Times is moving from a midnight deadline to a 6 pm deadline for press runs. That means that the main page will be staler than ever, with "breaking" news in an "extra" section past the front page. This was done because they closed the Orange County printing plant and moved the Wall Street Journal ahead of the LA Times in the print press order. In addition, with the closure of the OC plant, there is no backup should the Downtown LA plant close due to earthquake, flood, power shortage, or whatever.
Does this come with the Smartsource and RedPlum coupon inserts for the Sunday paper, or do they just send out the paper without the coupon inserts? If the inserts are included this is a fantastic deal!
