This is one of the most frequently recommended battery chargers in the FatWallet forums. Compared to the cheapo chargers that are often given away with batteries, a good smart charger like this greatly increases the lifespan of your rechargeable batteries by protecting them from overcharging and overheating.

The bundle includes 8 NiMH batteries. The charger works great with NiMH batteries from any brand, as well as pre-charged rechargable batteries like Sanyo Eneloops. The kit also includes a carrying case and spacers so you can use AA batteries in devices that require C or D sized batteries.

Amazon usually sells this kit for $40-$45. Friday sale price (today only) is $37. Free super saver shipping.

Amazon.com has 560 customer reviews of this product, mostly 5 stars.

This is a wonderful deal. I bought a BC-900 years ago and am a happy user. It saves me a lot of money of buying batteries.

Does anyone know if there are any non-cosmetic differences between the BC-9009 and the BC-900?

Good price for this charger.

Reportedly, the BC-9009 is a newer model. The main difference is a different color case. It may also have updated firmware to fix an overheating problem in some instances of the BC-900.

Damn, FW is killing me. Ordered this and the 99 cent plates this morning....

I think the user manual is also more readable.

No.

Get the La Crosse BC-9009 here for only $36 everyday Thomas Distributing Use coupon code: GCNE561 for 5% of your total. I bought this charger along with some Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries a couple weeks ago. Fastest shipping I've ever seen as I received package 23 hours after ordering even though I chose the cheapest shipping option.

I see $42 shipped. Do you have a free shipping code?

This is actually PERFECT. I have over 20 duracell 2500mah AA batteries that I've been charging and testing with a DMM (Digital Multimeter) every day to see how badly they can't hold a charge. All of them start at roughly 1.33v after being charged and drop to 1.0 to 1.1v within 1-2 days. I placed them all in a ziplock back and was going to dispose of them this weekend!

Then I read about this charger and how it could "revive" them!! So heck I bought it!! Thanks

There is talk on the other forum that there have been meltdown problems reported with this. Also are eneloop chargers not as good as these

I have a LaCrosse BC-900. The first one I had never melted down but didn't work properly but the newer version replacement did. When you first turn it on the last two digits on the screen are the version number of the firmware. The first one I had was version 33. I returned it to Thomas Distributing for a prompt replacement of a new one with version 35 firmware and it works perfectly. The meltdown issues seem to have been with older firmware versions from what I have read. The batteries that come with it are also seem to perform quite well. Worth the price if you have lots of NiMH batteries around it will tell you how much juice they have in them and properly charge them. I believe it is recommended to use 1000Mah for AA . But I also use 700 Mah sometimes.

Dammit.. I just bought it from Amazon last week for $40... I still haven't received it yet (should arrive tomorrow). I emailed and then even called Amazon for a price-match but got shot down

are they still only 1yr warranty?
my 900 broke down after a year. i'm wondering if the new one is more reliable.

I have the BC-900. It's working well except the buttons are a bit loose and hard to push. Sometimes if I don't push it enough, it doesn't respond. Does anyone have this problem?

Only with my wife.

One of their (Thomas Distributing) sale items:

Accupower Acculoop 2100mAh AA Ultra Low Discharge NiMH Batteries 2 Battery Pack
Product SKU: AP-AL-2100-2
Original Price: $3.97
Special Price: $4.99

I do feel special!

Thanks OP. Ordered one last night. I was planning to get a few Eneloop batteries and a good trickle charger and saw your post.

Doesn't Enloop do the same job? Does this have any advantage over enloop chargers?

If you need some new batteries to go with your new battery charger, Amazon has a sale on Duracell pre-charged low-discharge NiMH batteries (similar to Eneloops).
4 pack of AAs is $9.42 - 15% with code SCHOOLO9 = $8
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XSA60I

At this price, expect these to sell out soon. A 4-pack of Eneloops is $12.

I've been a happy user of the BC900 for a while now..but I have a couple of complaints.

1> The User Interface sucks bigtime. I can work it alright, but i couldn't begin to describe how it works to a non-technical person. That UI needs a complete re-work. For instance the time requirement (choose the mode before X seconds after putting the first in) is rediculous...HOW ABOUT A MODE SWITCH??
2> My first one blew a cell when trying to charge a null battery...smoke and what not came out. I sent it in and they sent me a refurbished one. After a while I realized the far right cell in that one doesn't work properly. I just use three cells now... Weak quality control...

But despite those two complaints...this thing provides lots of novel features....I love being able to take a bunch of batteries and weed out the bad eggs that for example are only holding 500mAh worth of power...

thanks op

There is a mode button, you hold it down for 2-3 seconds to change modes, at any time. As for the null cell charging problem, it doesn't try to charge them. Could it be because you were trying to bypass this safety feature by using the paper clip jumper trick that caused the first unit to smoke?

just got mine today.... any recommendations on charge currents for AA/AAA's? I remember there's some compromise between too slow/fast in charging. Is 0.5C a good rule of thumb to use? And what about enoloops?

Even a little cheaper right now - $35.95 w/ free Super Saver shipping.

wtf... was in my cart as 35.95... then suddenly out of my cart... went back to re-add and now its 39.99...

Price is back to $37 today. Maybe be today only.

Check your Gold Box, it showed up in mine as Quick Pick for $34.96
