They do have a good kids area, and in fact every year they win first place for Best Kids Area in Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards. And for adults, if you've ridden everything else, don't pass up the Fairly Odd Coaster (formerly Beastie) in the kids section. It's a pretty good wood coaster. King's Island is home of the longest wooden coaster in the world (Beast), which is also the longest coaster (wood or steel) in the US. And home of the the tallest wooden coaster in the world (Son of Beast), which is also the 2nd longest wooden coaster in the world and the 2nd longest coaster (wood or steel) in the US. And until 2006, SoB was the only looping wood coaster in the world, but the loop was removed after the 2006 season, so the trains could be lightened (since it took heavier trains with more momentum to make it through the loop) in hopes that lighter trains would be smoother. It may be a little smoother (?), but is still painful. However, as far as I know, SoB is still closed right now. Also don't miss Flight of Fear! It's a bit hidden and I actually missed it on my first visit since it was built (which only my 2nd visit ever). It's great! Also, KI just got the Firehawk coaster in 2007 (which came from Geauga Lake). Also be sure to ride Flight Deck (formerly Top Gun), since who knows how long it'll be there. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is closing for good theirs of the same type (Arrow Suspended) next month. Vortex probably doesn't have too long of a life left either. I wish I'd gotten to ride the Bat. Did you, OP? It was only there for 3 seasons. I'm thankful I got to ride King Cobra before it was removed. Also glad I got to ride SoB with the loop. BTW, King's Dominion is also a great park. And they still have their coaster that's like King Cobra (Togo Stand Up), called Shockwave. |
