Good deal? Not in my opinion. Sure, it's free, but going out of my way to get nothing for nothing sounds silly.
The labeler is junk according to reviews I've read. The rebate is just a subsidy to beat Brother's decent labelers get people to buy their expensive refills. Don't get this if it's just going to be trashed.
I worked at Staples years ago. Brother is the only refill we had people come in to buy.

Nope. "Disposable" assumes it comes with a full complement of label. It seems to come with a "starter" roll, which is marketing code for "won't last very long, which allows us to sell refills at high prices, thanks to the fallacy of sunk costs". At best, this is a sample, not a disposable.
Do I really need to explain the "free-printer-with-your-computer sale" trick? Don't help bad product makers trick us into buying junk with these so-called "deals". Keep this stuff off FatWallet.
Got one of these years ago when they were doing the same sale. Great label maker - easy to use, reliable, does the job w/o any problems here. Multiple widths for labels that you can buy if you'd like. Runs on 4 AAs and goes and goes. Font sizes go from 1/2 tape width to fat, so you can easily label small items and large. Easy to use w/o reading the manual - only thing you'll need to remember is the tape path (that's always important in any label maker however), which should be obvious even w/o the manual. Easy to type, easy to edit text.
Key? Buy the clear labels at Amazon and you'll be running as cheap as any other label maker out there - works fine for me =) $10 for 2 tapes. Casio does charge more for all other tapes, but hey, if you're okay with the clear 9mm tape, then it's a great label maker!
As for the starter tape, yes, it's shorter than a regular one. But, if you've already got a Casio and just want cheap tape (tax on this purchase), then it's still worth going out and buying it. Label maker? Give/dontate it!

Yes, they're $10.47, but there is $8.90 shipping, and it's not from Amazon so it is not free for prime or > $25 orders. You're almost better off buying them for $20.76 directly from Amazon.

Now that I have my unit, I'm not sure why I bought it. The label tape doesn't have a sticky back, so I have to tape the labels on... and I could just write on the tape myself without any device.

1) Please! Slip a fingernail or penknife near the cut edge of the tape and seperate the clear backing from the clear sticky tape! It IS sticky tape - you have to seperate the two parts first! You might not think it's two pieces at first, but try it and you'll soon see. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it - gently flex the tip, slip a nail between the two layers from the corner, and peel away.
2) Amazon runs out of their stock - what happens? They put up the link to another listed store! Don't worry!! Just wait a little until Amazon's own stock gets resupplied and all you FW shoppers can buy cheap tape again through Amazon.com. Usually happens when FW readers all go ordering cheap Casio tape all at once =P As for shipping, depends - usually free super saver and/or prime possible on most Amazon.com inventory items, so you should be able to get them with free shipping once Amazon's stock is replenished.
3) Link to Staples online is gone because.... it was a one-time sale item! they're out of stock online, so no point linking it anymore. Go visit the stores in person and see if any FW havent' already cleared out everything! Just remember, can't wait four+ days on FAR items! Gotta go in the very first hour on Sunday to make sure you get any!! Otherwise, wait until black friday - they usually have another great sale then. (and that's just a few more months until Turkey day weekend! yeah! Looking forward to sub $300 TV's and such - esp. with wholesale manufacturer costs for 32" LCD panel prices at under $150-190 right now.) This is much like the $0.01 70 page notebooks on sale this week - if you want them, gotta hit every Staples in your area day after day and stock up! (After all, no point buying any other notebooks elsewhere at $0.25+ - just stock up and you'll use them someday...)

hmmm
Its not sticky?
FAIL.Something tells me it's the user and not the product. Isn't there a backing that you peel off to expose the adhesive on the label?
