I came across comcastwifi access points while sitting in a Park in NJ. I connected and when i launched the browser i saw comcast advertising their free service.
It requires to sign in with a comcast.net email account, since i dont use their email I called comcast and got the account details (1800 comcast). I found that I always had a comcast.net account when i got comcast internet, but didnt know about it. The customer rep hadnt heard about it and thought it was some scam, later he verified and said "thank you, i didnt know about this new service".
"Comcast High-Speed Internet customers enjoy Wi-Fi Internet access for no additional cost in dozens of locations throughout the New Jersey region, including at many New Jersey commuter rail stations and parking lots."
That's kinda cool. I wonder if/when they'll decide it's good to go and roll it out nationwide?

Ironically enough, these WiFi hotspots are provided by Cablevision, another cable TV provider in NY/NJ area. Of course, you can't truly call them competitors since each town has a cable service monopoly so they don't really compete with each other.
In the same area you will see "OptimumWiFi" hotspot - see http://www.optimumwifi.com/
