The original Grand Prix had a little nicer handle shape, but these are still quality knives, and this is a good price on this set. I have the 8" Chefs knife and the paring knife from this set.
And 6% FatCash from Macy's ($10.80) to go along with that!

in case you're a blind dork like me and didn't notice the big red image on the Macy's site... Ii had that in OP but was told it does NOT work. Open this item(brand) if you click on the details of the 10% you will see near end that Wusthoff(and pretty much half the store) is not included in the 10% off sale.
You shouldn't put any nice knives in the dishwasher, dulls them in no time.
Another vote here for the classic handles. Much better for larger hands. Did some research and I agree. Never thought it would be a problem, and since these knives were SO sharp, I was afraid of hand washing. BUT hand washing is all they will get from now own.
If I didn't already have a Henckels set (the good ones with two fellers instead of one) I'd be all over this like white on rice. Thanks OP.
As another note, never, ever, put a good knife in the dishwasher... guaranteed failure of the handle and blade. I use a thing I picked up at target (Oxo soap pump mesh scrub) that has a scrubber with dish detergent in the handle for washing my knives. It makes things ever so simple to wash after every use and is damn well near impossible to ruin my blades or my hands... Plus the scrubber is replaceable in case you cut it with the knife you are washing. I highly recommend it to anyone with a good set of knives.
Yes, ageedoy and ggrr8t, the Grand Prixx II is considered a different handle 'option' for the Classic, so they are otherwise identical. The handles on both models are made of polypropylene (riveted to the metal on the Classic, molded to the metal on the Grand Prix II).
Comes with a bonus FREE 3-pc. Kitchen Tool Set - 14 x 10-in. Cutting Board with Juice Groove, Come-Apart Kitchen Shears and Flexible Slotted Turner/Fish Spatula.
Basically, they replaced * the 3" serrated pairing knife with a 4" utility knife, * the 8" cook's knife with a 7" Santoku Knife: Hollow Edge * the 6" sandwich knife with a 8" carving knife
$550 original price... for an 8 piece! Haa! maybe if you bought each piece separately!

Hi, I did some research about this Wusthof set and the Henckels 4-Stars II set. I can't seem the find the answer for it.
Which is a better knife? Someone claims that the TWIN 4-Stars II has different blades than the traditional Henckels 4-Stars and 5-Stars, and the 4-Stars II "Should" be shaper and better than the 5-Stars and the Twin Cuisine. Is it true?
for $199, it seems pretty decent deal..

Different people like different sets. Both this Wusthof set and the Henckels 4-star II are the 1 piece plastic handles. They are much lighter than the 5-star, Pro-S line, and the Wusthof equiv... Which is better? Depends on how they feel in your hands and what's in the set.
But my money is on the Henckels 4-star (no II) 8-piece set for $149 (see other post on FW). According to what I read, the difference between the II and the non-IIs is a slight design change for the weight and balance as well as a metal end cap. Not even Henckels' own site states that the II's are sharper than the non-IIs.

for $199, it seems pretty decent deal.. The 5-star and wustof are pretty much the same quality. You'll just have to hold them in your hands to decide which best fit your hands. I prefer the Wustof. I have the Classic handles. I like the look of the classic style.

This composite (24 sources) review agrees with Ducati's assessment. It doesn't address the specific questions that fatdealocean asks about the various Henckels lines, but it's a great resource to check out: http://www.consumersearch.com/kitchen-knives/review. Among the top-rated overall knives, experts and/or chefs consistently rate the Wusthof classic (the Grand Prix II just has a different handle as discussed above) higher than the 5-star Henckels. Although the 5-star holds its edge longer, those with smaller hands tend to find their handles uncomfortable, and they may tend to rust if not washed and thoroughly dried immediately after using.

The problem with most knives and how long an edge is held is the user's treatment of the knife. Too many people throw them in the dishwasher or have all of their knives unprotected in a single drawer...
Which ever set you get just remember:
1. Never put a nice knife in a dishwasher - hand wash and dry always 2. Learn how and when to use a steel (that long metal rod that comes with the set which most people think sharpen knives) 3. Either get your knives professionally sharpened or get the proper tools to do it yourself once every couple of months - and NO that $20 "sharpener" is not good enough if you want a nice edge 4. Use a knife block, knife covers, or some way of separating knives blades from hitting one another when you are storing them in the drawer. 5. Never use a chopping block that is harder than the metal in the knife - no glass chopping blocks please!
Follow those 5 simple points and your knives will give you years if not decades of good service.

Another vote for the Wusthof Classic handle. I had the chance to buy the chef's 8" with the other handle at a B&M recently for a really good price but after handling it I passed. IMO a knife is more than just the blade... how it handles will affect your results unless you are a rank novice. To me it also affects my enjoyment while using it, as I enjoy cooking which I'm sure most of you do just judging by the fact that you are on this thread. A SHARP, well-balanced and designed knife is one of the subtle pleasures of life. (ya, I need to get out more )
And right, that $20 sharpener will not do it... but a $6 one will! I had been using a steel and although the results were fine, I did not like the process much. The Wusthof-branded one from Amazon (little red thing, made by another company) is easy to use and provides a terrific edge. After this I relegated the steel to sharpening my tools (chisels, etc) and it does a nice job there.
