I just received last month's bill along with a note that Dish network is raising the rate for "Hindi Mega Pack" from $54.99 to $59.99 effective this month. I called to cancel my service, and the CSR told me that I have fourteen months remaining, and would have to pay an ETF at the rate of $10 per minute. I politely informed the CSR that I am cancelling because there is a material change in contract terms, and I have the right to cancel without being charged.

The CSR put me on hold, then transferred me to another CSR (I guess from the retention department). The lady there offered me a credit of $5 per month for the remaining 14 months if I stayed with Dish and kept my remaining contract. I agreed, but if you really want to get out, you could.

From past experience, if you decide to go ahead an cancel, also ensure that send them a written letter (Certified mail) telling them that you are cancelling due to the change in contract terms, and should not be charged any ETF. I know atleast one friend who got burnt with Dish after cancelling and still got charged ETF despite CSR's confirmation.

GOod luck, and feel free to post here your success/failure stories.

14 months @ $ 10 per minute, thats ridiculous. I would never pay that much. Lol, How can Indian people pay that much to cancel Charlie.

It would only be $42,336,000. Probably a little more than that since I used 30 days per month.
