The main difference is that the Sabrent is a recognized and reliable brand with a warranty and faster shipping from a U.S. distributor, and the ones on eBay are drop-shipped generics from Hong Kong with no warranty that will take as much as three weeks to arrive (these are cheap enough that the warranty doesn't matter, but the warranty isn't about replacement, it's more of an indicator of the quality of the product).

There's not supposed to be any tax if you're in California and shipping is free. You shouldn't pay more than $5.00.
Thanks, you're right. i tried order the 2nd one and it's $5.00 using google checkout. my 1st order was $5.45 using paypal. i think Shop4tech might be tricking people who isn't paying attention. Thanks for the heads up though. i'll drop them an email and see what happens? ...i know i know for $0.45 it's worth the effort
I ordered one of these. One thing I didn't like about it was that the USB connector isn't a 'mini-usb. plug. It's a standard 'type a' plug. I believe a type-a to type-a plug is rather rare, so I'm worried about losing it, and not being able to use the drive. Also, I thought a type-a was the only type to go into a computer, one needed a type-b or mini-usb to go into a device...
CRAP. I just ordered this and realized it's for IDE

I know that most of you already know this, but just in case, for those who don't..this is a 2.5" HD enclosure..meant to fit a laptop HD..not for a 3.5" normal sized desktop HD.

Not sure how anyone missed that since it says 2.5 and IDE both in the OP's title and many times in the product description, but stranger things have happened.
Mine came in the mail yesterday... it took 9 days to arrive. Not happy about that: is Shop4tech usually that slow on shipping stuff? I hope it works when I check it out this weekend.
Got mine, but it was only at that point that I noticed my dead HP laptop used an SATA drive, not IDE/ATA. Guess I should have taken the laptop apart BEFORE I ordered the drive...but hey, it's only $5.

Great deal OP. Thanks for the codes. In for one. I usually like to go the Egg for these things, but this is 50% of the price there (plus free shipping)!
For those looking for a SATA enclosure, after seeing this deal, I went to eBay to see what prices were like, and found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250485610582&... US dealer, SATA enclosure for 4.76 shipped. Got mine in 2 days, unlike those drop ship HK places.
Just thought I'd share my experience.

Good deal. I have same model bought from seller in HK from eBay.
Be careful with 2 tiny screws as they have sharp point meant to thread thru plastics and 1 ended up breaking near screw head. Other than that works fine.
I know it's free, but it sure is some wonky shipping going on. First UPS gets it, then it's passed to the USPS where it seems to have stalled for the last two days.
"Your shipment was accepted/picked up at 6:29 PM on September 8, 2009 in CHARLOTTE, NC 28214"
I'm just west of Charlotte so I'm not entirely sure what is up, guess you get what you pay for
Mong said: Oh, forgot to say mine made it to the post office after a couple day vacation 20 miles east of me. Ordered on the 3rd and arrived on the 11th....
I was annoyed with the slow shipping and blamed Shop4tech, thinking that they took too long to ship the item. However, you made me curious enough to check my tracking info. Shop4tech shipped my order the same day. UPS delivered my package to a post office 10 miles from me in Atlanta 2 days after I ordered (pretty impressive for being on the opposite side of the continent). Then it was sent to a USPS location 26 miles from me where it sat for 5 days before being delivered to me. Odd. Just odd.
The price is now 6.99, but you can use code FB17 to get 17% off until 09-20-09.

I have one of these that I ordered from Newegg a long time ago and they are awesome. the screws are a little small so fat fingers may struggle a little, but overall definitely worth the purchase to resurrect an old drive.
