Seriously though, who is Ken Onion, and why should I buy his knives? Are they the lower quality Shun-Kershaw version that popped up on the board in the last few weeks (courtesy of Amazon), or something different?
IMO Ken Onion are probably one of the best kitchen knives out there, top quality steel, perfect balance, and an excellent handle. This set will last for a lifetime especially with the free knife sharpening provided by shun.
This price seems a little high, but you get what you pay for. It is similar to purchasing All-Clad pans, not everybody wants to pay the price (even during the seconds sale), but many people swear by them.
I have a smaller Ken Onion set that i purchased for $500 on eBay, I love it but also use Victorinox Forschner knives which are a great value.
green for the price of the Shun knife set, but RED overall for the fact that no one should buy a whole knife set. If you really want a shun, buy a french chef and a paring knife. You're pretty much good to go.
