I would note that the only reason I can think of to buy this system is if you want to put Linux on your PS3. Otherwise, I personally wouldn't consider the slightly larger hard drive and game worth the higher price, higher power consumption, larger system size, and older hardware. This system is not PS2 backwards compatible, in case you were wondering.
I think the main drawback of the Slim PS3 is that it will not be able to run Linux, which for most won't be a big deal. Also, the Slim version is designed to lay flat (unless you buy the stand which cost about $20+).
