I ordered one. I'll give it a shot at replacing my current Vonage service.
They still do not have a list numbers available... Magic Jack does

I'm a regular forum member at dslreports.com, which is mentioned in this thread. I ordered a netTALK dongle. It took 10 days to receive it. I live in Sacramento, CA and was given an Antioch, CA phone number (about 75 miles away). I understand from netTALK they will be adding numbers closer to me at some point in the future. You can read more about my experience with netTALK here.

RE: number location
What I do not get it, all other voip services have numbers for most areas and let you see that before you buy. Why would one company not do that. Makes no sense.
The major difference between Magic Jack and TK6000 (nettalk) that tk6000 do not need computer and you can hook up directly to the router. This is a very very plus point over Magic Jack. (NO Thin client or computer) ,wow
Warning: You do NOT get free calls. To get free calls, the other party has to have this thing too! Major ripoff!

I have NetTalk and would like to comment here:
I do get free calls with the service to any phone in the US, land, cell or otherwize. The other party doesn’t have to have to TK6000 box for free call in the US with the service. So AFAIK it's as they advertise, "Free calling"
But I have had a lot of trouble with the service. I suppose it's a new company and we all (w/ their service) are the ginnypigs. They are working on it. If they keep up on their end of the deal on the (a limited offer) free calls for lifetime, it's an excellent deal.
But hoping (and expecting) they improve the bugs, such as:
1. Voice mail doesn't work right, for me at least. a. No real voice mail interface. b. When voice mail it activated, goes directly to voicemail without ringing my phone. I recieve no email that I have got a voicemail or any way to check it. Kind of useless (at the least) so I am just using Google voice for now.
2. I have to reboot the TK6000 as incoming call will stop ringing into my phone after a while (rebooting unit fixes this, but I can't be here constantly to reboot when it quits working!)
3. About every 10 minutes (or so) my phone conversation goes garbled, I just have to ask the other party to please repeat. Sometimes I go garbled for them.
4. No Local number for me yet, I still do not have a local number. My area code is right and the prefix is close, but not for my town. (They should explain this better on their website. The map on their site shows all area codes in the US, NOT THEIRS. But I should eventually get a number in my town.
The service does have pro's over other options. 1.Cost 2. Hooks directly to Ethernet /Router 3. Can take with you and have your phone while traveling or visiting (just hook to any Ethernet internet connection)
The company is new. They are working on the bugs. It's in beta stage.
For 99.95 (w/ free shipping I phoned my order in) of Lifetime service, I do not believe I was ripped off, maybe just inconvenienced! -lol
P.S. Their delivery is slow/ slow to process order/ship out.
Also: sometimes I have to dial a number more than once for it to go thru. Although minor, note: You have to call using 1+xxx-xxx-xxx format for all calls, local or not.

That's not true, the TK6000 is a device like Vonage - you can call any phone and receive calls from any phone with any carrier, not just to other TK6000's.
Make life simple, get GV a cheap headset w/mic and you have yourself a portable phone for incoming and out-going calls from and to the USA from anywhere in the planet, as long as you have high-speed internet. Oh, and it's free!

my Update about NetTalk,
"Stay Alive" (incoming calls will stop ringing into my phone after a while - rebooting unit fixes this) issue never fixed, which means incoming calls do not ring phone (but I can call out) - this apparently doesn't affect everyone, I am guessing it depends on your LAN setup, make of router, and router configuration. I have never been able to get this issue resolved. - a solution is to use Goggle Voice, but you never get your incoming calls, just the voicemail from GV.
I did eventually get a Local Number.
I found that the support on the Nettalk forums and live/phone support to be pretty decent.
I did get the ooma Hub/Scout so I could receive calls. The NetTalk make a good 2nd line!

I had the Keep alive issues until I just got my SIP credentials and used a Linksys PAP2T instead of the TK6000. I actually find the TK6000 a pretty neat device... unfortunately NetTalk has not ironed out all the little bugs for it. Until they fix the keep alive I can see myself using my PAP2T.

Has anyone been watching the urinary contest between Nettalk and MJ at Laptop Mag? There is also a poll there.

vecchp,
I do have a Linksys PAP2 adapter I am not currently using. How Do I get the SIP information and how do I set it up? I would love to make it actually work for incoming calls!
Thanks

The user login can be found one of two ways: 1) Use wireshare (can be a little more technical than you want) 2) Log into your nettalk account page and go to phone numbers. You should see SIP/1111XXXXXXXXXX@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - The numbers after the 1111 is your user login. - The ip address is the proxy for the calls.
Your sip password is the password that is on the back of your TK6000.
Proxy = ip Display name = Whatever you want User id = id you get from above Password = password back on tk6000 port = 5060 (Not 100% sure off the top of my head.) I also turned of provisioning for the sake of it.
I can't check the actual config I have as I am not home. If you have any problems I will double check what I just posted.

This is completely wrong. This has been talked about numerous times on their forum for clarification. As of today (1/28/10) and since launch they give you free local and long distance calls. This offer is however for a limited time only as they are still in the initial stages of releasing the TK6000. The ONLY thing you get charged for is international calling which requires you to purchase PREPAID minutes.
