Or, take a cup of brown sugar, a cup of white sugar, and a cup of water; boil until all the sugar is dissolved, and add about 1/8 tsp of maple flavoring (you can get a few ounces for a buck or two). You'll have syrup that's way better than Log Cabin or Mrs. Butterworth's, and will have paid next to nothing for it.

That brown-sugar + flavoring thing may be sweet, mapley, and better than Log Cabin (YUCK!) but I assure you it's got nothing on the real stuff.

Alrighty I'm sold on a jug but which grade to get for belgium waffles? I don't think I ever had the real stuff unless IHOP serves them.

Ditto - Grade B does not indicate quality, just color. The darker the syrup, the more intense the maple flavor.

Chicken and waffles anyone?

I got mine yesterday, 4-16oz. I tried the grade A dark and its very good. I wish I would have bought more to stock up. The King Arthur Flour Belgian Yeast Waffle recipe I use calls for 3 tablespoons of maple syrup. With the batter, syrup use and Waring waffle maker, these bottles are going to go fast.

Another good thing about these bottles are that they don't drip all over bottle after pouring. They created a little pocket near the opening. Great design!

Yeah, Grade B is darker than the darkest Grade A. Grade A is typically harvested earlier in the season and has a lighter maple flavor, Grade B is harvested later in the season, and has more maple flavor (and actually more trace minerals in it as well). I really prefer B myself... dark and maple-y.

Medium amber is sweeter but not has "maplely" as dark amber or grade B. If you prefer (as I do) Grade A dark amber, then order "Brown Family Farm Pure New England Maple Syrup, 32-Ounce Jug" for $18.41 or $9.21 for 32 oz using the code and S&S.

For strongest maple taste, get grade B - but the cheapest is $25 ($12.50) for 32 oz. I would get the 2 pack of 16 oz jugs for $26.37 ($13.19) if you want B. You have to refrigerate after opening and if you don't go through 32 oz pretty quick you will get better flavor for longer with the smaller jugs. The same idea applies to grade A, but the 2x 16 oz jugs are just too high compared to the deals on the 32 oz.

For me, Medium amber = not enough maple, grade b = too much, dark amber = just right.

I have been buying various brands of real maple syrups in stores for YEARS and via Amazon for the last few. It seems weather conditions the last couple of years have caused lower syrup production so supply < demand = much higher prices. It looks like the Bascom folks looked aronud and decided they needed to move out some left over syrups and made Amaz0n a "sweet deal". Most of the syrup you would buy today will expire sometime next year, so don't go overboard buying too much - but I have not seen a price like $9.21 for 32 oz of real dark amber syrup in, well, never . I have enough on hand and on the way to last me a while...
