I just received a message saying that Wii internet channel is now available for FREE. This used to be 500 Wii points before. It also says if you've paid for this before, they will credit you for 500 Wii points towards games. So fire-up your Wii and get the internet channel or get the 500 Wii bonus. You can use this to buy some games.

Btw: For those who don't know what this is, this is an internet browser. You can surf the net with it. Xbox 360 and Ps3 always had this for free but now its free on Wii as well.

SWEET! Thanks for the heads up. I regret missing this the first time around when they were giving it for free during the beta stages of the browser (which they allowed free beta users to upgrade for free). My opinion is that this should've been free from the beginning, but I guess that doesn't matter now.

For what you get, it should be free. Anything flash based won't work for the most part as it only supports flash 7 which is 4+ years old technology...

Incorrect - it's free and updated to Flash Lite 3.1

i will get it now..... but i wouldn't pay the $5 for it before

xbox 360 does not have a browser. but great deal.

im posting from my wii

do you get an email on your wii saying you get credited back the 500 pts? My son has it on his wii, but says he hasnt received any message-

Other companies should take note of this- making a previously paid for product free and REFUNDING the cost is a great move on Nintendo's part. Makes the people that paid for it not feel as hornswoggled.

Almost makes me want to remove the homebrew channel...

Is this for a limited time or just any time? I only ask because I don't have a clue how to hook up the WII and my grandson will be here tomorrow and he is a whiz at it...

how do I download?

I doubt it is limited time... looks like Nintendo is just offering it free now... (not a "limited time offer")

Start in the Wii Shop channel... thats where you "spend" Wii points. (probably under internet or something).

"If you've already shelled out 500 Wii points for the Internet Channel, Nintendo is offering a make-good in the form of a free game download, but you'll have to wait until October to collect.
Nintendo says in a press release: "Starting at the end of October, consumers who have previously exchanged 500 Wii Points to download the Internet Channel will be able to download, at no cost, one NES game of their choice valued at 500 Wii Points from Virtual Console."

Green! However, I wish the updated internet would stream Netflix now that would be Super Green!

green for OP and Nintendo. Refunds rock.

Anybody know what Flash apps are available now that weren't before? I tried hulu, and now I don't get the "You need a newer version of Flash" message. However, I couldn't get any of the videos to load, just get a blank screen ...

Go to mediamall.com or search for playon and you get a 14 day trial to use netflix on the wii, ps3 etc... If you like you pay a one time fee to use their service. They also have other plugins for free, from ESPN, Food Network etc... So far I love it...

So with this flash lite 3.1 upgrade, that should play flash 9 videos, so Hulu should work now, right?

I don't have one to test yet, we're planning on getting one around christmas time. If someone tests this out, please post back.

If Hulu works with this, I'm disconnecting my cable. Can't wait to try.

A FREE INTERNET BROWSER? In the year 2009? I never thought I'd see the day!

Woohoo! I bought my Wii right before they stopped offering the free browser, but didn't know about it until right after they started charging for it. I was bitter, so I never did pay the $5, even though that's not all that much money. It was just the principle of it--the fact that I could have gotten it free a month earlier, if I'd only known about it. I'm glad to see they've made it free again. Maybe I'll have to go dust off the poor, neglected Wii, download the browser, and look into the downloadable content I recently read that they finally started offering a while back for guitar hero type stuff.

i love the idea, but anyway to control or monitor the content on this, don't want the 10 year old surfing where he/she should not be.

hot thanks!!!

Is this called the "Nintendo Channel"?

Is that was the OP is referring to?

I tried Hulu earlier today and it did not work. So at least I couldn't get it to work, wondering if others had better luck.

Thanks... I will get it.

No...it's called the Internet Channel.

I couldn't get Hulu to work, just got a black box instead of the video playing. Tried going to ABC, NBC, FOX and videos didn't work on those sites either. But Youtube worked.

youtube has always worked. So far I haven't found anything new that works

Thanks for the heads up. Now I can browse the Internet on the PS3, Wii and media center PC

PS, Use http://youtube.com/tv on either the PS3 or Wii. It is an optimized version for TVs. Works great on both systems (though I think some videos on the regular site may not show on it.. not sure)

PSS The OP said Xbox always had this, the Xbox has a built in web browser?

Awesome, I paid 500 points for this, but haven't used the Wii in months.

Cool. Now if they'd just enable DVD playback on the Wii.

I just got the net channel & am lovin it!
and, I just got done watching Operation Repo on Hulu with no problems.

I didn't even know it had a channel...thanks OP!

Xbox 360 has an internet browser? And for free? There are two things wrong with that sentence OP. But it is a great deal and I own a Wii so green to you.

very nice....thanks for the heads up, OP

Hey Thanks. Setting up the Wii internet was always on my to-do list, I finally did it. It only took a couple of minutes for a newbie like me. The nintendo website has good step-by-step instructions.

Always liked the Wii supporting AOSS (I have a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54), this makes it even sweeter!!

@ Jenbie: Really? My Wii has always shown (just confirmed again today) 8 pages worth of games to choose from - some of which are hard me to choose between because I remember them on NES and loved playing them back in the day.

Just a reminder that your free NES game credit of 500 pts expires 12/31.
