I was just at my local PETsMART and they have the older looking bags of nutro dry catfood for 50% off. Most of them have additional coupons on them too. I just picked up a 20# bag that was regularly $40 for $16. The newer bags are regular price. The exp date on the older bags I was buying was 09-10, so plenty of shelf life left.
I normally don't buy this brand because of the price.

I used to feed this brand, and my cats did well on it. I changed because they raised the price CONSIDERABLY when the Mars company bought them out, and I can buy higher quality food for the same price or less.
Seemed like pretty good stuff though. It used to be at a great price point, but not anymore, IMHO. Great deal here though, OP.
Found some 20lb/8lbs/4lbs bags at the Murrieta Ca store (50+% off but very limited supply left). Many bags included a $4 coupon attached too .
Grabbed a 20lb first vist ,then about an hr or so later decided to go back for more but all the 20lb bags were gone . Settled for a pair of 8 lb bags. 20 lb bag ($40 regular price) $20 -$4 coupon = $16 8 lb bag ($20 regular price) $11.90 each , -$4 coupons = $7.90 each (x2 bags) TOTAL : (1) 20lb $16 (2) 8lb $15.80 = $31.80 Savings of $48 !!!
I do agree though , the regular prices were quite abit lower not long ago . My cat loves the stuff , but I may be forced to go for a different brand if prices keep rising . However Iam good for about another 9+ months at this point ; so we'll see what happens by then .
My kitty cat thanks you OP !

I think it all depends on the ingredients of the cat food. Not all dry cat food is bad, and not all wet cat food is good. That is fine if your cat drinks enough of water with dry food made of healthy ingredients. Wet cat food with wheat/corn gluten, animal digest/by-product is a big no-no to feline.

Do some research. Cats need meat, as in the wet, canned variety.
Vegetable based dry food, even with some trace meat byproducts, is bad for feline health.
Great find OP! Normally feed the kitty Max Cat, but with this price was able to upgrade. Got the last 20 lb bag of Adult for $20 and a 4 lb bag of the Kitten formula for $6.90 (Gonna switch kitty to adult food after the 4 lb bag of Kitten formula runs out). With $5 off total in coupons (found in store), I left with 24 lb of cat food for $21.90 + tax.
I found these at the Howell Mill location in Atlanta. I got the last Adult and Kitten bag of any size. They did have 6 more 20 lb Senior formula bags for $20 as well as some smaller Senior formula bags. I had previously checked the Cobb Parkway location and did not find anything.

I just got a couple of the big bags at the Bloomingdale store - there were a couple of the weight-loss big bags left as well as tons of the smaller bags in all varieties. They were located on a back endcap. This is a really great deal for some better quality cat food!

Liver Failure = Diabetes
Canned is mainly water 78%. It would be better to feed a high quality
dry food than a low quality wet food.
I am currently supplementing with raw chicken parts with bone. You
have to balance Protein and Calcium.
You are very wrong with your conclusions. 1) Diabetes has very little to do with the liver - google pancreas 2) Water is not inherently bad 3) Raw chicken is bad. Cook it. 4) Balance protein with calcium? Did you just make this up? It's an absurd statement.
Chicken meal is much better than chicken. nice article
Gluten is a filler in cat food.
Stay as far away from anything that says "animal" or "meat" in the ingredients as this can be sourced from anything. Does the author of that article work for Blue Seal Feeds?
JesseLivermore said:We had a cat that died of liver failure, and the vet told us dry food is very bad compared to wet food for cats.
Whether he was correct or not, I have no idea. Some of the research I did supports this view, though. My cat was fed Science Diet dry food for 18.5 years before he got liver failure. A pretty good lifespan, I'd say.

SpaceBoy said:3) Raw chicken is bad. Cook it.Incorrect, the feline natural diet is nothing but raw meat and bones. The feline digestive tract is very short compared to ours. SpaceBoy said:4) Balance protein with calcium? Did you just make this up? It's an absurd statement.Something about a safe calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. In the wild felines eat the bones as well as the meat. Canned and dry foods have the bones ground in or calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate added.

+1 We were avid fans of Nutro until the relentless, unreasonable price hikes. The last straw was when price was in high 30s per bag. That's when we switched to Kirkland Premium for about half. Nutro lost us because of their greed.
