The Z series is Sony's midline TV series. (Better than the S, V, and X, not as good as the XBR). This TV usually sells for $1500, so you're getting a significant savings by going for the refurbished one. Just so you know, I called my local Sony Style store to see about getting it in person and was told that the refurbished models are only available at outlet stores and online.

I think you are confusing the Z for the V. The 46" Z made it down to $1599 early this year/late last at either BB or CC which was a steal for that model at the time. That's as cheap as that one had gotten, even online. I was actively keeping an eye on them at the time.
This is a SWEET deal! I got in for one...the Z series is highly regarded...I also signed up for a Sony card a while back so its another $200 off!!! Thanks op

Sorry, but MNFRUGALSHOPPER is right, it was the Z. Got one myself back then. You must have missed the deal.
