Called Vonage to cancel my $24.99 unlimited 60 free countries plan. Offered the same plan for 12 months at $12.50 a month - rep said in 'these tough times' they are offering this 'special'... He offered it - I did not even have to ask...

ViaTalk offering 189 for 2 yeras , which will be 7.85/month
Lookslike the Vonage plan does NOT include 60 free
Phone Power - cheaper and easier to use than ViaTalk - Phone Power is $199 for 2 years with a $15 shipping fee plus taxes, which comes to about $253 for 2 years. You can easily chat with sales at the end of 2 years to extend the offer (tell them you're going to cancel if not). ViaTalk is $189 $11 shipping $30 activation taxes which aren't disclosed, so it will be more. And with VT you have to fax a letter of authorization to them to port your number, with PP you just enter the number you want to port and the carrier it's on and it takes about a week.
I just started it last week. India and China Free Call for both Mobile and Land line. Used friends reference and got two months free for me and him(paid only tax).
Well, I usually spend more than $25 anyway on International Call. Still keeping AT&T(Old Bellsouth), without LongDistance. Will watch for a month before discontinuing.
Got it. Thanx op. I was offered 2 free months @ first, then said no thanx. Then offered the $12.50/month for 12 months after which it will return to my original $24.99/month unlimited world plan. This 12.50 is only unlimited residential without the 60 countries. However they did prorate the remainder of this month as a credit and are giving me free visual voicemail too. (I'll have to check that out.)
Got it. was paying $17.99 for 500 minutes plan. They gave me $12.50 Unlimited for 12 months. CSR said there is no contract. Also got the visual voicemail.
I was thinking of switching to OOMA but figured this buys me time to search for a better deal (if it comes) or when OOMA comes out with their new devices.

I've had Vonage for over 2 years now. I've had no problems unless my cable goes out... Easy to setup. If the cable does go out for some reason, you can have phone calls forwarded to a different number (such as a cell) Can't beat the price.
1st CSR couldn't do it cause he was a low level. He transferred me to an Account Manager, who promptly made the switch n sent me a confirmation email detailing $12.50 a month unlimited w Visual Voicemail. Cool.
Just got off the phone with Vonage. Been a customer for a little over two years on 500 min./month plan at $17.99/month with no issues whatsoever. Called to disconnect my service. Told rep I was going with OOMA. He offered to switch me to World Plan (free intl calling to 60 countries) for a 12-month period at $12.50/month with no term commitment. After 12-month period, the rate would revert to $24.99/month. Might switch to OOMA when their new devices are released next month.
I am already with Vonage $24.99 unlimited plan and today i called the customer service. They said the $12.50 unlimited is residential US and not world plan. So no luck.
Those who got the world plan for $12.50 can you confirm the same by logging into your account. Do you see the World Plan showing up in your billing details? Some seem to be getting it and some not. Thanks in advance!
I dont have any friends that i know who have Vonage service. If i just tell them a friend referred me to them, will that work, any one tried that. Thanks
I've been with Vonage for more than 5 years and was on the $17.99/basic 500 plan. Called today to cancel and after a while, he dug up the offer, which is called Residential premium with unlimited calls to US/Canada/Puerto Rico, and 5 European countries, plus free visual vm. It's $12.50 a month for 12 months and then they will automatically switch you to the $24.99 world plan, but it is NOT the unlimited world plan now. It's still good enough for me to switch. No obligation since it's still month to month.
Great deal for Vonage customers. But Vonage subscribers should probably be concerned that the company is facing such stiff competition that they have to cut their rates in half. Vonage will have to gain alot of new subscribers (unlikely), layoff workers, cut expenses drastically or get bought out.

Increasing number of customers to eventually get bought (or sell Vonage) seems like it has merit to the strategy.
I am on the $14.99 plan which resets to $24.99 in Oct. So, this couldn't have come at a better time.
I am hearing good things about ooma core but being a SR victim, I am leary of handing over any VOIP company $200 in one shot and ooma's charing $40 for number porting isn't helping 'em in my book.
This is a retention offer. Their customer base has been flat under 3M for the last 3 years while VoIP like Comcast are gaining ground, so they're bending over backward to try to keep the existing customers. I wonder how long Vonage will continue on before they go down like the do-do. Look up the stock symbol VG and you'll see their horrible financials.

Like some others here, I was with Vonage for about 5 years & I just cancelled - there incessant groveling to keep me as a customer over the last few months, even with comp'd charges, was getting old fast. Decided to go with a bluetooth hub linked to our T-Mobile family plan, and it works great -- no more continually increasing Vonage bill.
I agree that Vonage will invevitably be going out of business , and some big VOIP player will buy them out at pennies on the dollar just for their customer base - at which point your bill will go up drastically. I'm actually not sure how they are still staying afloat with the amount of money they are bleeding , not to mention how much they spend on customer retention.
I stand corrected. I'm actually on the Residential Premium Unlimited Plan at $12.50/month. The plan automatically switches to the World Plan at $24.99/month after the 12-month promotion.
I just got my adapter and we will enjoy the party as long as it goes. I think Vonage is going down. I had Vonage for more than 2 years till last year and it was always good but in later years of its service I used to have silence of 30 secs which led to buy Magic Jack for 5 years. Magic Jack is not working well for me and I need International Calling, hence the switch. Had they not locked their adapters to people they probably would have retained some customers.
I've been w/ Vonage for ~5 yrs also. I tried to cancel when I went to ViaTalk (poor quality and a couple of smart*ss CSRs ended that trial) and then SunRocket (the Spring before their demise) but the Vonage CSRs kept my plan open w/ free months. Vonage's call quality was always better. I have had my plan reduced several times and the only problem that I have had w/ my phone was due to Comcast -- until I called and told them that I thought that they were deliberately screwing my service up (haven't had one instance since then).
I hope that the doomsday prophecies don't materialize. Vonage has always provided me w/ top-notch service/response.
I'm on the old unlimited for life for $14.99 from 2 years ago (the RT plan). But if I want to get the new international rates, I have to switch plans. I thought everyone would get the new rates... I do put in about 400-500 minutes of international calling at 1cent... I might call now and see what they say, though I'd hate it having to call back in a year...

Last Christmas, Vonage not only did not let me accept calls but took 2 weeks to deliver the messages! After being lied to by 2 CSRs, Vonage agreed to refund that month's service (& cancel my service ... giving me trouble cancelling and I wasn't even on contract!) -- and throughout all this, acting like they were doing me a favour!
My Nettalk Duo should be here this week and my number ports!
FWIW, Nettalk has a Valentine's Day deal -- order 2 devices & both ship for free (shipping starts @ $10 ea. device).
