Since every thread about the Acer 1410 are all labeled netbook killer, I might as well stick with it It really is a netbook killer - I've had mine (my son's) for 2 weeks now, it performs beautifully, absolutely destroys all the Atoms netbook I've tried. I got in on the J&R Bing CashBack deal.

I'm not sure if every BJ's warehouse will carry this, it's not even listed on their website. If you have BJ's price club membership, this is the best deal going IMO, without having to wait for the CB and the convenience of B&M store pickup for the instant gratification. What I find interesting is that a hot new model already has a $50 instant rebate, one that lasts through December at that. See the photo I snapped with my iPhone.

Saw this at my local bj's yesterday, nice looking laptop. Not so great for hackintosh with the 4500MHD. Sounds like you can get it to work without QE support at the native resolution, but not sure on the wifi, ethernet, sound, webcam, etc.

It does come with a free Windows 7 upgrade. I think i might jump in.

Any idea on BJ's return policy?

Specs would be nice, unless this is a discussion forum.

Is this hot because there is a sale or this is a hot item?? Can I buy it everywhere for retail as well?? If so this a deal discussion at best.

Retail is $450

someone posted earlier the same notebook from CircuitCity.com (aka tiger-direct) with 15% bing CB and no tax in most state, and possible $20 paypal rebate.

final cost is $363.

True, but you're paying $450 up front, have to wait 60 days for the CashBack (the $20 PP is not a sure thing), and least of all doesn't give you the instant gratification like buying from a B&M. This is a brand new model, not yet discounted I don't think. You most likely won't find it at another B&M store with a discount.

BJ's has 14 day returning policy on computers, no restocking fee. Many online merchants charge a restocking fee for opened computers. If I was shopping for this now, personally I'll pick it up at BJ's, pay a bit more for the instant gratification and not have to deal with the CB hassle.

Yeah I don't think hackintosh on this is feasible right now. It would be awesome if/when they can get everything on this Acer working in OS X.

BJ's has 14 days return on computers, no restocking fee.

anyway to not pay for the membership and still get the labtop at this price?

Nice deal for folks who don't want to jump thru the Bing & PayPal hoops,
and then wait a couple months for their cash~back.

Previous post for $362.49 after some extra effort.

seems like a pretty sweet laptop if you're looking for something more than just a netbook

Are there any deals on MS Word "the Lotus Notes killer" or Peet's
coffee "the Starbucks killer"?

How is a netbook a netbook killer, did you mean it's a killer netbook ?

SithMaster said: How is a netbook a netbook killer, did you mean it's a killer netbook ?

It's not categorized as a netbook. Even though it is smaller than most notebooks and doesn't have built-in optical drive, it is a notebook with single core Core2Solo SU3500 and without OS restrictions like netbooks. Also, Core2Solo outperforms all current single and dual core Atom processors.

If you purchase this at BJs then you have to factor in sales tax--unless you are lucky enough to live in a sales tax free state.

Does anyone know which model Kingston Memory will fit in here? I would like to upgrade mine (it hasn't arrived yet) to 4GB. Apparently it has 2GB with a single stick installed so it will need another 2GB stick. I'm just not sure what to order.

Does anyone know if BJ's carries different colors or if they only have the standard black?

There is dual core version out in Europe (1810TZ) now, so we should be seeing a dual core version of the 1410 soon here in the states.

I always go to Crucial.com to get the RAM Specs even if I end up purchasing from somewhere else.

this is actually a pretty good deal. Everyone on this thread is comparing the retail $450 1410 which has the single core SU3500 with the BJs 1410 which is actually the Dual Core SU2300. The SU3500 is being discontinued and the SU2300 model is better (with the exception of the smaller harddrive)

(the BJs is the dual core? pallet pic and the specs are for the single core)

neat mini (think I saw a thread where there was a $30 coupon on this?)

the dual core version of this with the SU2300 processor also has Win 7 already on it--there's more info on the HOT Fry's thread on that model 1410 which is only available instore, though Frys.com is showing the SU2300 model for $399 in stock

Picked up the 1410-8414 for my wife Black Friday at Amazon. It's nice but it's definitely more of a netbook than a laptop, in size and screen real estate. Yeah I know by calling it a laptop you beat some of MS's restrictions. If you need more processing power than a net book and can live with the smaller screen I think this is a good choice. I think it was worth what I paid for it on BF, not sure if it's worth the $400, unless you specifically need a netbook w/ additional horsepower

Great netbook and a good value, but more than Amazon for most (after tax) isn't a hot deal, is it?
