I you plan to use GoDaddy for getting email, you'll miss a lot of emails. I signed up with them about 2 months ago. I get about 40 emails a day from eBay for saved searches. All of a sudden they stopped coming. GoDaddy insisted it was on my end. Then I changed all of my email accounts to a gmail account including eBay. The day I did that, the eBay emails started coming again along with numerous others I wasn't getting before.

GoDaddy's email problems are legendary. Unfortunately I learned that too late.

Hence the phrase "not a big fan of G0daddy" in my original post. When the time comes to renew or transfer out, you will see what other myriad of problems you'll encounter. Iwould not advise anyone with sane mind to use GoDaddy for anything that is important to them.

The comments regarding email hosting have nothing to do with domain registration. Less than 1% of GoDaddy domain customers have them host services (such as email).

Their domain registry service is as reliable as any other.

thx op,
I've had nothing but good luck with GoDaddy, and they're 24 hour AMERICAN customer service has always been able to solve the problems I bring them.

btw, for cheap 3rd party hosting for sites that aren't mission-critical, I found e-rice.net to be by far the cheapest option

I've had decent experiences with GoDaddy as a registrar. They also ask before they renew, so auto-renew is not a sneaky money making scheme like with 1and1.

I would echo the concern about email. I found that they filtered some non-US domains; that was a big driver for me to host elsewhere, even though I continue with them as a registrar.

They make you buy a SmartSpace item for $10 so you're only saving ~$1-2
