A celeron processor? Really?
It's okay if you are going to email, web browse and light stuff like that. But if you are going to do anything more than that, get at least a e2200 or above. Might have to pay $100 more, but you'll get more bang for your buck.
I gave green, post is a hot deal. Those who dunn the Celeron know not of what they speak, they live in the 10 years ago Celeron world. For most users this pc is just perfect and at a good price if you also need a monitor.

The item is $300 $400 is 25 percent more. Did you know that?
Honestly, if/when my parents break their computer again, I'd rather spring for one of these than a more expensive, potentially better computer (even $100 more is too much). Neither of my folks have much/any computer knowledge and mostly they use it for web surfing, so this would be a perfect computer for them.
I can't say this is a great computer for everyone, but I suspect there are more computer illiterate people around than we realize, or would like to admit.
Edit: added "I suspect " for better statement accuracy.

RE: but there are more computer illiterate people around than we realize
What a ridiculous thing to say. Those with pc literacy know that a Celeron is just right for most. It is the illiterate ones that do not. Or think they are so high and might or hoity toity that they dunn all but the top end units.
An I would guess anything less that a $60,000.00 new Escalade would not suit them either.

And your point is? That's pretty slow. It's equal in speed to a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz without HT. At the very least, they should have used a Celeron 440, that's at least a 2.0Ghz C2D celeron, which is equal to a 4Ghz Pentium 4.
This wouldn't be that bad if you could drop in an E5200 replacement. Anyone know?
Starting tomorrow, this one will be only $50 more ($350): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999115900050006&type=product&id=pcmprd116000050006
It has a 2.2ghz dual pentium, 3gb of memory, and vista premium. I got this system for my mom last week when it was on sale.

A big drawback with the Celeron isn't simply its performance, but its lack of deep power savings modes. Intel intentionally crippled SpeedStep in their Celerons. The net effect is that while a Celeron may consume similar peak power as its Core/Pentium counterpart, it can't go into the lowest sleep modes when idle. This significantly affects battery life for tasks such as web browsing when the CPU is idle alot and activity comes in bursts (load a web page, sit and wait for user input).
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron_M/ "The Celeron M microprocessors included many, but not all of power-saving features that were present in Pentium M processors. Celeron M CPUs didn't support Deeper Sleep mode - this mode provided the lowest power consumption for Pentium M processors."
That said, it's still a good price for a laptop, just know what you're sacrificing (battery life as well as performance). When you get to a Celeron, you should consider AMD's offerings as their mobile chips are comparable to Celeron in battery life and often out-perform it.

What laptop? LOL can't address the issue at hand, so you deflect and distract. Are you by chance a politician, or on the debate team?

" " ___ 33.333 % Or it can be expressed like that .....
I was surfing on a 1.8 celeron and it was too slow. So others may have issues with the speed .. even those without computer literacy.

Exactly. And the numbers that get used by those to determine how fast a pc is means squat to many. And in the real world, many will not see let alone there be any advantage to them.

I think similar system is now $350. Too bad I missed the $299 deal. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999116300050005&type=product&id=pcmprd116400050005
I just got a Pentium 4 system for $25 from my university (512MB/P4 2.4ghz/30GB). Dropped a spare 320GB IDE drive in it and installed Windows 7 and it runs like a champ. Boxes like this are great for websurfing. Contrary to public belief you could and still can surf the internet on old hardware. You don't need anything fancy for web browing, youtube and tax software or whatever. Seriously. I'd say you could still surf on the k6-2 350mhz I have in the closet but it doesn't run XP so great these days
