Just sold my Ideapad S10 for $275 (damn close to what I paid), after using it for 6 months+ today. I am sort of in a hurry for a new computer since school is starting today so just hopped on this.
Refurbished 10V, Win XP, 160 gigs, Obsidian Black, 1.6 Ghz Atom Processor, Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950 for $229 + tax. Came out to $243.89 shipped. Not bad, I like it as much as an Ideapad. The only other Net Book I have used, an Acer one, I hate.

According to various websites, 10v can run OS/X even with 1GB. Just depend on the "version" modified OS you are installing. Here's a good starting point
Mac OS X works practically flawlessly on the 10v, they can be upgraded to 2gb of ram but it's a huge pain in the butt, basically requires full disassembly of the machine. but there's nowhere else that you can get a decent mac for less than $250. quick google search on the 10v running Mac OS....
oh btw the ones at $229 right now have 1024x576 screens, believe it or not it's probably worth the extra $20 to get the other 24 pixels in height so you can work at 1024x600 without screen hacks or cropping

Exactly, I got one of the 10V the last round of sales. Its near impossible to upgrade the memory for a normal user. I don't know why they designed the way it is.
The 10V runs Mac OSX fine. Not perfectly. I was able to get everything working but the sound. Then, I was able to get the sound working with another Distr but not the Lan network. So I gave up.
get a mini 9 on eBay. a pain to install but runs osx without a problem and mem is a snap to upgrade.

Beware a few things on these:
* 15% Restocking fee if you choose to return it * If you get lucky like me, you'll waste 45 minutes on the phone trying to get a return processed (go Dell Customer disservice!) * The touchpad is terrible, cursor seems to fly off randomly * As mentioned above, upgrading the RAM requires basically disassembling the whole system

The memory upgrade is tough but if you pay attention to the video it only takes 15 or so minutes. Snow leopard install is a snap now. After I made my usb and ran netbook maker it didnt take any longer than a normal install. Oh yah. I got all my info to do stuff at mydellmini.com .
our 13 yr old just got a mini 10v for his birthday. one MAJOR FLAW that we found is they altered the SD card slot in the 10v (and possibly other models) so the card only goes in half way. that means if you want to use an SD card in the slot as basically permanent extra memory, you have the card sticking out. its one of the worst design flaws ive seen on a netbook. we are going to end up hacking up a regular card to try and reduce the size so we can leave the card in the slot and not risk it being broken or damaging the slot if it gets snagged on anything.
the Dell mini 9 does not have this issue, neither does the eeepc 900a, as we have both and use cards as extra memory in those.

One big advantage of 10v over 9 is the HD. With 160GB, I don't know why you need to have a SD as perm storage.

Does anyone know the battery size of these? thanks
I want to get a mini as a gift for a college student in third year. I am open to the pros/cons of purchasing a 9 or should I go with 10/10V with Windows? Any help please.

I'd recommend the 10/10V just because of the size of the keyboard. It's much easier to use if you need to do a lot of typing. I'd also highly recommend the 6 cell battery to get about 5 hours of use when on battery. If you can hold off, check Dell.com/twitter as they often post 15% off coupons there for outlet purchases.
Thanks PCRAGE69. I was leaning towards a 10 for the reason of the keyboard and just a bit bigger as she has vision issue. I have a code for discount received in the mail. Will I be able to use it on one of these refurbished ones?

Unless your code is specifically for the outlet, probably not. Also when you order from the outlet, make sure the screen is a 1024x600 and not a 1024x576 one, those extra pixels DO make a difference.
The cheapest a/g/n with a 1024x600 screen is $279 with either a 16GB SSD or a 160GB SATA for those looking for those specs (currently start on page 13, took a while to find them ).
GREAT little laptop. Mouse pad is not bad at all...easy to get used to. Ordered on Friday and received today (Wed). Unfortunately the display is 1024 x 576 and not the 1024 x 600 as ordered...and confirmed by Dell prior to shipment. Do the extra pixels make that big of a deal? I noticed that at least one poster thinks it does. Feedback?
Didn't pay attention before, but checked the Display settings yesterday and found mine is 1024x600 (ordered one with 1024x576). Nice, 24 more pixels.
And note, that 24 pixels help a lot. A lot of installer dialogs are taller than 600 pixels. I was able to move the dialog to show the action buttons. Wouldn't be able to do that without those 24 pixels.
Hey, I just found out they are selling these under business too. They have tons at $219.00 under Model: Vostro A90. Yet one more rock to look under for a deal at Dell Outlet.
Yep, Vostro 90 is Mini 9. Latitude 2100 is the Mini 10.

I was looking at some of them and the cheaper ones look like they have 3 cell batteries. I haven't found any bigger just yet.

Can you do occasional video encoding with these Atom processors? I mean like converting smallish videos to MP4 for posting on Youtube or putting on an Ipod, etc.

I ordered one w/1024 x 600 but came w/1024 x 576! parfour7th's avatar is pretty much my reaction when I checked the resoluton...
threedd said: Just called. They want me to send the Mini in for them to replace it w/the 1024 x 600 display - what a bummer, but at least the shipping is covered.
Could be worse!
If I could find a 10v in the outlet store with a 6-cell battery and bluetooth, I'd be buying one of these and hackintoshing it....but with the smaller battery I just can't justify it.

not all 10v come with the 160gb hd. you can also get them with a 16 gb ssd. we specifically asked the gift giver to choose ssd because we figured it would be the safer bet to haul back and forth to school in the backpack of a not-so-graceful teenager who tends to trip over his own feet. and if choosing an ssd hd, being able to use the sd slot for extra storage is important as then you can triple your storage space for a fairly decent cost, especially considering sd cards are cheaper than ssd drives of equivalent size.
