Norton Internet Security 3 user 2009 is free after two rebates again at Frys
One is an upgrade rebate which has been running since last year. Note that the rebate form says it can only be submitted once for the promotion period, but many FW members have reported that they have had no issues in having Symantec fulfill this particular rebate 3 times during the period

And, as a former Norton hater, 2009 is a vastly improved product from a resource standpoint.

Remember that this can extend your 09 subscription and/or allow you to upgrade to Norton 2010

Update: to reflect that Dell raised its price - time to go back to Frys

great deal! but how do you submit 2 rebates with 1 UPC?

touxiong said: great deal! but how do you submit 2 rebates with 1 UPC? Read the forms, its one UPC, one POP.

First rebate uses the UPC. Second rebate uses the Proof of Purchase on the inside box tab plus proof of ownership of competitor product or another Norton product (see rebate form for details - e.g owner manual title page, photocopy CD)

Thanks OP...

read it too quick... thanks!

I bought 2009 while back, but haven't installed yet. Has Full 2010 been released?

Not as good a deal as previous (and probably future) where the thing was free with one rebate and the upgrade was gravy. Gonna wait...

now I have 4 copies NIS2009 via FAR and havn't used them yet. Is legal to resell them on eBay or Craigslist?

If you list more and 5 auction of Norton stuff, they don't let you list any more software for few months. They did that to me last year. Of course had to use a different account.

Thanks OP. WEBPLUS X2 WEBSITE MAKER is also FAR with free shipping. Anyone has copy of first page or CD of Avanquest
WebEasy 7, or Intuit Website Creator for upgrade rebate?

Is this as good as symantec endpoint protection? I get mcafee free with comcast but it SUCKS lol it can't find any of the new virii that people nearby me get infected with now. I always have to run malwarebytes and avira on systems that have mcafee on them to clean up.

This direct link to the full version (~80MB) is useful too:

Endpoint is intended for corps (though anyone can use it, of course) and doesn't have nearly the number of advanced features in it as NIS does. Paradoxically, Endpoint is also considerably heavier, running 6 or 7 services. It used to be that the corp version was lighter, but that changed by a huge margin over the last two model years of the retail version.

Be aware!
First, make sure you haven't submitted any upgrade rebate of Norton Internet Security 2009 since 09/01/2008. Otherwise, your rebate may be rejected.
Second, don't just buy it because you can upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2010. None can confirm which one, 2009 or 2010, is better now.

People have tested the 2010 beta and it performs as well as 2009. 2009 version was reviewed as great since they cut the bloat. It also is confirmed to work with Windows 7. Sounds like a viable option for great Security to me.

For the upgrade rebate they want a copy of the previous software's CD...does this mean a paper copy or the whole CD mailed??

Photocopy of the CD, not the physical CD itself.

jonnashville said: Not as good a deal as previous (and probably future) where the thing was free with one rebate and the upgrade was gravy. Gonna wait...I have not seen that with NIS, just NAV. What they have done is offered the bundle which also includes NSW and Ghost (but that is also with 2 rebates).

I'm going to buy this and submit the upgrade rebate for the second time for this promotion

If you currently have Norton 2009, you do not need to uninstall it. When the subscription expires, enter the new key. Then upgrade to 2010. Or, upgrade to 2010 now, and enter the key from 2009 when the current subscription expires. Either approach works

You can download Norton Internet Security 2010 directly from Symantec here

not only can you do 3 upgrades per address, but also per person - I've got more than 1 for myself and my wife (not sure if we are both up to 3 each, but the norton verbiage says "per customer", not per address..)

Are you over 3 for your address?

Got this last time FAR from Fry's. I found out it is not Windows 7 compatible. On the web site it simply states that they are working on a Windows 7 compatible version for NIS 2009 and promise the 2010 version will definitely work with Windows 7. Otherwise the rebates came within 2-3 weeks.

yes, in total we are..and I havne't done any calls for "courtesay validations" or anything..they've just all been approved

Upgrading from previous NIS installs

I am using 2010 and it seems to work just fine. It has some new features, so I figured it was worth it to install. Plus its supposedly more compatible with my operating system (windows 7 x64 RTM).

For those upgrading to 2010, it's highly suggested that you use the Norton removal tool to remove previous versions or installs. However, only go this route if NIS is the only norton product you have installed as the tool will remove everything norton. If you have any other products then just do a simple uninstall the regular way (control panel).

I took one additional step before installing 2010 which was to run the registry tool in CCleaner (crap cleaner) to clean up any stray NIS registry remnants. This is optional, but suggested IMHO.

After removing and rebooting, install NIS 2010 and you are good to go.

Norton Removal Tool OR More Direct Link

NOTE1: It's suggested that you keep your key handy, but I didn't have to enter it again as the system kept it between installs.

NOTE2: I suggest this method as I had this weird error popping up with the Sonar component when I simply installed 2010 over 2009. The method above fixed the issue.

2010 versions which were released to the public are designed for a yet to be released Windows 7 as stated on their website. LINK.

Symantec's website said: Norton is Ready for Windows 7 Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton AntiVirus 2010 are designed from the ground up for Windows 7. The 2010 versions of our products deliver security that is both light on your system and extraordinarily effective. Norton uses the results of billions of scans on millions of computer to predict threats before they strike. Norton Internet Security and Windows 7 – they were made for each other.

Thanks OP. In for 2! Maybe 3 later

do you have to buy this from Fry'
s?

T's & C's of the rebates say
$30 rebate said: Purchases made at Amazon.com, Best Buy, BJ’s Wholesale Club,
Buy.com, Circuit City, Costco, OfficeMax, Sam’s Club, Staples, Target, and WalMart are not eligible.

and $20 upgrade rebate said: Sales receipts from Best Buy, BJ’s, Costco, OfficeMax, Sam’s Club, Staples, Target, and Wal-Mart are not eligible.

So, no you do not have to buy it from Fry's

I have NIS 2009 installed now. It popped up today saying it is expiring in 23 days. A friend has the 3 user NIS 2009 and has only used it on 1 computer. Can I (and how would I) renew 2009 using my friend's key and then upgrade to 2010? And if so, someone here says it is best to uninstall 2009 and direct install 2010, but if I do that then would I be able to use the 2009 key for the 2010 install (without first installing 2009 and doing it as an upgrade)? Thanks!

i don't think there is any problem by using 2009 key on 2010 new installation

Its not technically a renewal, you are just changing the license to a new key. (Note that the license is for 3 PCs for one person).

I have not done the 2010 upgrade yet, but in the past uninstalls were not necessary. As I said earlier, you can upgrade first and then enter your 2009 key.

If it were me, I would just wait the 23 days then enter the new key. Then do the 2010 upgrade

Understood. But 99% of my Vista compatible software work fine with Windows 7 RC. After 30+ years of working with computers and multiple OS changes and upgrades it is usually the case. All the essential software are ready before a new OS is officially introduced. I always thought the Big Guys have more resources and pre-release stuff to start working on the compatibility. At least that is what my employer's IT department does. Then I was hoping there will be a patch to make it compatible and there was none.

I will try to install the 2010 version as others did.

I know FAR is good but is there any reason not to buy it at Dell for $40 and then use the two rebates to make $10 (-tax if applicable) instead?

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A20324...

It looks to me like both rebates should work for purchase from Dell, no?

Skipping 45 Messages...

i just realized that i got charged monthly maintenance fee for the prepaid visa cards i got from norton/symantec rebates 6 months ago .. does anyone know if there is any law against that in California? thanks!
