I was in Fry's yesterday and saw MadKatz PS3 (something)shock controller that looked pretty much identical... for $15 iirc.

Why would I pay 3x as much for a controller made by Sony, vs. one made by MadKatz (from whom I've bought some nice products before)?

Because you actually want a controller that works? MadCatz prodeucts are generally regarded as junk. I'm glad that you have had good luck with them, but I can't imagine that they are the same quality as Sony controllers.
