Last year they had the 18 year old Macallan rebranded as Kirkland for what, $79? The year before it was $59 and flew off the shelves. I dont think last years price point worked so much for us cheepskates, even for a good bottle! This year they have 15 year old rebranded Macallan for $48.89. Was lots of it in the Edison Costco last evening. Was suprised nothing was posted yet.
I didnt partake, but Im sure I will. Any brave soul willing to try and post?
Do I need a membership to get a bottle? or can I get a 3 day temporary or something to get a few? Macallan 15 year is a fine scotch, although it's no 18! The 15 sells for about $65 if I recall correctly, while the 18 is over $100

Im pretty sure you can get a one day pass and pay like %10 premium on your bill. Not sure.
It seems a good deal either way. Its not being given away but I thought that there is a group of fatwalleters that would be interested in the deal. Thanks for looking.

I know that here in California, you don't need a Costco membership to buy alcohol from Costco. It's some state law.
Damn....wish Costco sold liquor in WA or OR Thanks for posting anyway OP...any Scotch or Beer deal is worth posting in my book. Even if I am an Islay guy....
Great post OP. Would be even better if I lived in California. When I was in town before and the 18yr was in stock for $60 that was a hot deal and I wish I would have bought much more and just shipped a crate back, great stuff.

Is this wine or ?
Good gosh. I'm just browsing threads - I didn't know what Macallan was either, but reading two posts I figured out it was a good scotch (the name ought to clue you in), and I saw it was hard alcohol and some states don't sell outside of state liquor stores, and WTF, some bungler with 10K posts asks ...
"Is this wine? DUH!"
Sheesh. Clearly, as one uses FW over time it's like 'see title, ask stupid question, subscribe to thread, leave'

You don't need to be a drunk to enjoy a good aged single cask scotch
No you do not. But the boob who noted I was unaware of what the item was must assume all are, lushes, booser, drinks or a wino.
And here in Oregon, we have no sales tax but do have state (not run but price mandated) liquor stores. I am better off buying in Calif even with tax than buying real booze here.

well, the photo attached in the OP is labeled "kirkland single malt" and if you still haven't figured it out, clicking on it reveals the sign "kirkland signature 15 yr old scotch".
not quite sure how much more you need than that, whether you're a lush, boozer, wino, drunk, or never touch the stuff.
I don't know who this Macallan person is that you're posting about, but if she's a girl, maybe you shouldn't be posting this. 15 year old is too young.
From what I understand, about seven or ten years ago, Macallan's needed product and they started shipping a 15 yr old scotch, taken from their 18 yr stock that had three years left. It was actually GREAT, better than the existing 18 yr old stuff, and me and a bunch of friends who were already fans of Macallan's kept a healthy supply around. Three years later the stock of 15 yr stopped when the same 18 yr reached maturity and even then we thought that the 15 yr tasted enough better to track down as many bottles as we could find.
Last year I picked up the Costco branded Macallan's and it didn't taste as strong, maybe a little watery compared to the true 18 yr old Macallans but it was still pretty good. I still have about 3 or fours glasses of that 15 yr old and it still tastes very good, especially compared to the Costco.
So who knows what this 15 yr old Costco rebrand will taste like. Hard to see in the picture but it doesn't appear to say Macallan's as strongly or as boldly as last year's bottles did.
Funny thing about single malt scotch is, like wine, there is a mix of flavors and bite and bitterness and smoothness.
Right now my favorite is GlenMorangie "The Quinta Ruban" and this is a 12 year old scotch, so there.
Glenfiddich 18 is pretty good stuff for less from what I've seen. The liquor situation was a big downer while living in NC. Good to be home in SoCal. Drive to costco tomorrow night for a few bottles. I got Johnny Walker green label in wooden box for $39 month ago. JW gold is ok but overpriced. Will see about green.
Nice OP! I am in Edison NJ also. I was headed to costco tommorow, will see if it is still in stock!
Not that it is going to taste better then my Old Pappy Van Winckle 20 year old (bourbon) but for this price I am sold.

Note that the label says "Sherry Cask". I'm not sure whether the standard Macallans are aged in sherry casks, or syandard oak casks. Will the sherry casks make this a bit deeper amber tone, more nutty, or...?

The laws regarding not charging a membership fee to be able to purchase liquor go back to the end of prohibition, when they were trying to phase out speakeasies and private clubs.
Costco Brand (Kirkland) liquor is not available in Texas. Some dumb licensing rules that forces Costco to use another company to operate their liquor business in the state.

It's available in Houston Willowbrook, so your first statement is not accurate.
Texas' alcohol laws are an amazing amalgam of federal, State, County, and City laws; what is true where you stand may well not be true 100' away, as you cross in to a different county or city.

A good price even compared to the great prices at NH liquor outlets...

Just FYI>>>
In Texas, you do not need to be a member to buy alcohol either.

Bought a bottle yesterday and actually prefer it to the Macallan 18 Fine Oak. Not sure the Macallan 18 Fine Oak is available here. I purchased it in a Duty-Free shop two years ago. The Kirkland 15 Sherry Finish is smoother than the 18 has a very nice finish with less of a shrp bite of the 18. I'm more of an Ardbeg 'peat freak' but will definitely drink this Macallan. If you're into the better Speyside flavors grab this while you can.
