I just returned from a trip two days ago, and one night was a free stay based on points earned earlier. Absolutely hassle free getting the free room. The Choice hotel chain (check their website for all their brands) is at the lower end of the spectrum, but prices are usually competitive, and I've found that a phone call to the property (not the 800 number on the web site) and a conversation about lower rates at a competitor usually results in a price reduction. Choice is not hilton, so be prepared for basic rooms, but generally clean, free internet, minimal breakfast of one sort or another.

Don't fall for this !
When they had their "stay 2 nights get a free night" promotion in March, I stayed with them twice during the period, used the "best internet rate guarantee", and then they refused to give me the free night because the rate that I got for both nights was "too good". Sooooo, I saved $20 per night by using their "best internet rate guarantee" and they cheated me out of a free night (about $80).

Whow! I've done that before and it worked!! when you say "they" - was it corporate 800-# that you called? Because if you give them your Choice membership # at check-in or registration that will appear on your activity log you can check. If it's not, call and dispute it (providing you still have your check-out receipt or confirmation #. Were you trying to use your free night on your 3rd consecutive stay at the same hotel?

Corporate 800 number was called 2 weeks and 4 weeks after the second stay to see why neither stay was listed on my account (reservations were done at their site and "best internet rate guarantee" process was done thru their site). I explained that I stayed 2 different nights (not consecutive) and I was looking for my 8000 points for a free night to be added to my account. Their explanation on both calls was that they don't give points for all rates and my "best internet rate guarantee" rate was too low, therefore no points, therefore no credit for staying two nights, therefore no free night.
Nowhere on their site does it say that if use their "best internet rate guarantee" you will not get credit for your stay.
