Tmobile Stores Nokia 1661 prepaid for just $9.99 YMMV: In the Boston area store, the guy said that they are putting these phones on sale. Used to be $19.99 yesterday. They come with a sim card which the store sells alone for $10 ! They come with a small # of starter minutes, 10? And a charger. Nice little phone even comes with an FM radio- the earphones double as the antenna! If you're going for the T-mo-to-go plan, this could be a great start. nokia 1661
***deal has just ended in Boston area: phone back to 19.99.
Good deal - still shows $19.99 online. Does it ring up at $9.99 or did he have to do some sort of override? For $10 + tax it's a bargain. They'll make you activate it in store but if anything just take the SIM card out and use it on your postpaid plan, or give it to someone as a gift.
so far just in the store- i checked the website. he said they were gettin g more of them in too, so maybe they're just moving onto bigger and better, maybe the online will change soon too. today was the first day it's on sale in the T-Mobile store.
i had this and it was not very good. the keys felt very cheap. picked up some other nokia phone for $30 that was better. my advice, pay another $10 to get a better phone.

Any update on this sale? For $10.00 dollars, why not!!
wait for online phones with $25 card and $19.99 why pay $10?????????????
How often do those offers happen? that sounds good too. The $9.99 offer might just be an in-store deal, I wonder if it is National? Anyone peek in a TMobile Store outside of Boston to check yet?
anyone know if you can use this phone with its sim as a phone with a contract? like a plan with tmobile? or is this just a cheapo pre-paid phone only? thanks!
i bought this at target for $14.99. buttons are a little hard to press esp if you have big fingers and feels really "plasticky." but i guess if you're looking for a really cheap phone, this is a good deal...comes with a built in flashlight feature which is pretty much the coolest thing about the phone
mghpingoy said: also i did NOT have to unlock the phone. i have a regular plan with tmobile and just switched out my sim card in it and it worked fine.
Tmobile->Tmobile is fine without unlocking, Tmobile->anyone else it needs to be unlocked.

seems to be a local phenomena... went back and they're still on sale $9.99 not sure why it isn't also on the web. Maybe it's a local option elsewhere too?

I had one of those. It kept turning itself on from bumping around in my pocket. And it called some umpteen digit number the same way and drained all my time.
You can turn on a key guard feature to prevent it from turning on unintentionally.
I've used this phone for a few weeks now. The volume Is really low for the normal speaker, speakerphone and using headphone. I already set the phone to a loud setting. Anyone know if there a way to up the volume?
this is not cheap at all. we can get this phone for free. usually T-Mobile website sell 25 dolar prepaid card and we just need to pay 19.90 . it includes this phone. with fatwallet we get 5 dolar Cash Back which cost us like only 15 dolar -> 25 dolard card + phone. we get this offer very often ( 2 month time or sometimes even every one month) check T-Mobile website

Not everyone is on prepaid and can make use of the airtime card, or wants to bother with selling it on eBay. $9.99 + tax for a phone is very cheap. I'm just using it as a spare phone on my postpaid service.
BTW keep in mind they activate these in store. Just in case people were thinking of reselling them. I wanted to stash some of these for Christmas but they have to open it and activate it..so I just got one.
bought one at Target a few weeks back for $18 when they had the deal for three months of $10 added to prepaid account
they didn't activate it in the store --- the phone works great, but I have it tossed in the car and hardly use it --- so my opinion is based on what I got it for

Yeah, if you buy it at most any other retail store, it's "grab and go" - I think the T-Mo store just activates it to ensure they get their commission.
