If you want to try something for much less money, the UHF Outline Bow-Tie Antenna Model 15-234 is $4 at RadioShack or you can make a better one like this for next to nothing.

My friend just made one and gets strong channels from surrounding states! Similar to the link from taf, but this one is not directional. Just happened to stumble upon this thread so figured I would share.
