Pentax Crossover (139.74kB)

Petax Corssover (650.21kB)

Pentax DSLR Crossover Bag for $22.35 at Amazon.com

This is nice bag for day hikes or everyday shooting. It is big enough to fit a DSLR, two lens, and smaller accessories. For serious shooting this bag is a bit too small, but it's great for a casual day out in the field. $22.35 and qualifies for free shipping with orders over $25. Throw in a UV Protection Filter to get free SSS. This is the best price I can find by $15.

Not a bad bag, but if you have an extra $10 I much prefer this one from Cameta: Pentax sling bag.

This is a great little camera bag. It'll hold a camera w/ lens, 3 additional lenses, a flash, and then a pouch left over for batteries, chargers, cables, etc....not to mention card holders, etc. You can even fit a decent sized diffuser in the pouch space in place of other goodies if needed.

Yeah that is a nice bag. I looked at it as well when I was shopping around. The sling bag was a little to large for what I needed it for. All I need the bag to carry is an E-Volt and two lens so the Crossover suits my needs perfectly. Thanks for sharing the link though, I'm sure it will help someone out who needs more room than the Crossover can offer.

Looks like these bags are knockoffs of the popular Lowepro Slingshot bags. They come in a number of different sizes, depending on how big/bulky a bag you want. The Pentax bags are half the price of the Lowepro bags.

Note that carrying a lot of gear in a one-strap bag (vs. a backpack) can be uncomfortable if you are walking around for hours at a time. Some of the newer camera bag designs have most of the benefits of these sling bags in a standard 2-strap backpack design.

Most photographers prefer sling bags for one simple reason: You don't have to take off the bag to access your gear. All I have to do is pull it around, grab my lens, flash, etc., and I'm back in business. If I were a hiker I would gravitate towards the backpack design for the comfort, but for the field shooter I think the pro's of a sling bag definitely outweigh the cons. Truth be told, I walk with my camera bag completely full for day sessions and I rarely even notice it's on.

The Lowepro Fastpack series of backpacks opens from the side just like their sling bags. Slide one shoulder strap off, then you can pull your camera out of the side pocket just like with a sling bag. If you're not walking a long way, you can also carry the bag with just one of the shoulder straps, then it works just like a sling bag.

Try the different bags out in your local camera store to figure out what works best for you. The different brands/models all have different advantages, and also fit different people differently.

Sweet! I already have a Lowepro AW100 slingshot bag but would like a second one to carry my second second set of "even more casual" gear.

As an added benefit, a "Pentax" bag would make my gear less attractive to thieves. (har har)

I actually saw this bag up close recently when a friend had one holding actual Pentax gear. My first reaction was "OMG, Lowepro knock-off!". The bag is not nearly as nice as the Lowepro, with thinner nylon, thinner padding, and generally looked more frumpy.

But at this price, it's awesome.

I found someone posted comment about the sling bag that you can't pull out the camera without widely open the bag, means you have to lay it down or risk other stuffs in the same compartment fall out. Looks like this one is better.

Edit: I checked the pics again, and this one should be better for that.

As someone with a sling bag, you can most definitely open it without putting it down...that's the entire point of a sling bag. I'm never in fear of my equipment falling out. The guy above said to just sling one shoulder off of the backback style to access your equipment. Maybe you're built differently than me, but it's not a matter of just taking a shoulder off. You have to reposition the bag...and backback style bags usually aren't designed for sideways access like sling bags are. Everyone has their own preference, but there honestly is a world of different between the utility of the two different styles of bags and one should buy a bag based on how they intend to use it.

See, the thing is the hiker may probably want to carry a 'real' backpack for packing essentials (food/water/tent), which then makes the other styles more attractive than the backpack. I know when I go hiking I prefer the pouches, as I can stuff them into the backpack with less fuss than I could a backpack.

The price on this bag has dropped to $12.57. You still need to get your total to $25 to qualify for free shiping.
