Are these games tied to the computer you purchase/download to?
Can you re-download the game, like steam?
Can you burn it to a DVD?
Do you need to be online to play?

You can download your games unlimited times from the Direct2Drive server. Unlike steam, the games aren't tied into a program - the CD keys are listed under your account on the D2D website and are needed upon starting the game for the first time only.

You can install on an unlimited amount of computers. Some companies however may have other DRM specific rules not unique to D2D (Chronicles of Riddick allows only three installs).

You are basically downloading the ISO or Disc Image of the game. Therefore, you can back up on a DVD if you would like to.

You do not need to be online to play. Only activation is done online. However, you may call on the phone to activate as well.

A separate, unique, key is given to you as well for multiplayer games - this is your multiplayer key.

Hope that answers most of the questions!

Still open World of Goo for $5. One of the most engrossing puzzle games I have ever played.

Heads up for those who care; I saw World of Goo on clearance at Target Thursday 1 October, $3.79.

It should go without saying that this is YMMV, and brick and mortar only. This was Houston Willowbrook, fwiw.

Surprised this thread isn't getting more play...seems like several good deals. Can you take the serials from any of these purchases and plug into Steam to download there? That's what I did with Dawn of War 2

So far Saint's Row 2 and Defense Grid can be activated on Steam.

Mount & Blade technically can by downloading the steam demo and entering your retail serial upon activation. However, it doesn't become "tied" to your steam account and the serial must be re-entered when you download it on another computer.

Is it something like a subscription? I am afraid to give my cc info on any game websites. I learned my lesson when I bought a game from HP wild games, thought it was $6 something but ended up paying $80 for some crappy game which my son never care to play.

it's basically steam without the manager tied to it.

see lbdeleon's post which pretty much sums up d2d.

so far i've purchased 13 games and couldn't be happier.
