wow...for $5 that is a cheap sata to usb converter...whether you use the case or not! Looks like you could just stick the converter into any SATA drive and connect to your machine!
Be careful when you use this casing though. The hd isn't really supported in it. It will hit the walls of the enclosure if you move it a lot. Imagine if you carried it in you bag or something. Figure all that tapping against the enclosure couldn't be good for it.

Not really. 3.5" drives generally require more power (i.e. external source) and this is a USB-powered enclosure.
I've got an IDE version that looks just like this. The glue that holds the circuit board to the front part doesn't adhere to the circuit board anymore so it comes apart when unplugging my drive. Everything still works, though.
I bought three of these and the quality is bad. Two only got detected by the system 1 out of 10 times. The other worked fine but the usb connector was loose so you had to jiggle it around for the system to pick it up. Unlike my other enclosures you HAVE to use the 2 USB to 1 cable they provide because I guess it is power hungry.

1st green for op. 2nd IJTI is right. I've used one of these for about 2 yrs. Had to insert thin strip of foam at one end to make sure the drive remained stable. That said, I'm a careful user and don't knock or transport mine around much.

My tracking info for the IDE/ATA version of this drive showed that it shipped from California. Be warned, however, that although Shop4tech ships your item out VERY quickly, their shipping method means that you won't get your item for 8-10, on average, after ordering. Specifically, UPS picks it up and transfers ti to various UPS Mail Innovations (UPS MI) facilities, which apparently have a work-share partnership with the United States Postal Service (USPS). Your item will sit there for about 5 days at the closest UPS MI location to you until it is transferred to the USPS for delivery.

thanks op, couldn't pass up for 5 bucks each. picked up 2 for 10 bucks.
I don't know - the last two cheap 2.5" enclosures I bought were junk, and thus a waste of money. I need two replacements, now...but will this one be any better?

What brand are they? Did they work at first and then conk out prematurely?
I know that Sabrent gets good reviews. I can't tell who the manufacturer is for the SATA drive that the OP posted, but it looks EXACTLY like the Sabrent IDE/ATA version (www.shop4tech.com/item5141.html), even the case look the same. I have this IDE/ATA drive and it works flawlessly. I can't speak to longevity yet though.

I think that they were just having some site problems or you caught them in the middle of updating the site (the enclosure picture posted now is different than it was when this deal first was posted). Once you add the item, view your cart, and enter your zip code, it should take you to the page where you choose your shipping method (this shipping page did not appear earlier today). Under the shipping info, there is a box under the text "Coupons & Discount Codes," enter your code there.

huh? Isn't SATA a specification that defines the power and data connection? I would assume any SATA connector could plugin into any SATA device and drive it? Guess I will test this out :-D
You could use code TM17 (exp. 10-04-09) to get 17% off. Since the price is now $7.99, that code would bring the price down to $6.63, and shipping is still free.

Thanks, I guess that is still the best deal around, my cheapness tells me to wait though and not take sloppy seconds.
