Yes. Thanks for answering the question. Another related question is, if any of the ink cartridges is over does the printer disable itself entirely? The reason I ask is, if I buy primarily for offline scanning functionality, I don't want to be forced to restock ink (and older Epson's are notorious for playing tricks like this).

lennyboy said: Mutts - what were the clerance prices on the NX200 & NX400?
Earlier post said: Target orignally price was $29, down to $21 now. They are clearing out the NX100, NX200 (was $60) and NX400 ($70) at the Target I went to.
How does this compare to Epson Workforce 500 which is on sale for $59 from $99 at various times/places lately? Also, anyone know how the workforce line behaves with ink? My current cannon is about out of ink, and the (separate) scanner I have has no x64 drivers which is the only thing really holding me back from using win7 x64 vs the currently installed win7 x86. Figured for $60 I get new ink and a x64 compatible scanner in a pretty sharp looking machine. Ink blocking the printer from printing is an automatic deal breaker though. I hardly ever print color, so in the cannon, I dont even have the carts plugged in. They dried up or something due to lack of use I imagine since they eventually popped up low, so I took em out. Printer still works, just have to click the lack of ink warning on the color (even though print being set for b&w only). It works fine like that....but as mentioned wanting a new scanner plus needing a new black cart, might be time for a change. If the Epson works like that, this is acceptable. If it makes you keep the whole array of ink good, then no.
I have a feeling that I should just spend a little more and get that base Brother all in one laser that is about $160 on sale quite a bit. It's only B&W which is fine since I dont print photos and such, warm up time before first page cant be any longer then the cycle inkjets go through before starting to print first page, from what I understand the laser toner doesnt dry up or become bad over time which is good since I print just a random few pages per month etc. Scanner gets used very heavily, but only for documents, so as long as the scanner can scan documents and receipts legibly and save to pdf, thats all I need there. Decisions decisions.
go with brother or canon laser, all your concerns are valid, i recently switched to canon laser, i had epson inkjets nothing but trouble and headache, yeah they print beautifully but their inkjets are thirsty for ink you pay high ink prices and deal with frequent printheads clogging, if you don't print frequently and not in color, B/W laser is the way to go, i see brother AIO laser for $99 every week at Frys

Thank you so much. Just picked one up and a extra cartridge of black ink for a total 36 after tax. They have about 5 left in coral springs, Florida. near Ft. Lauderdale.
I'm just interested in the scanner, I did a bit of searching and looks like our old scanner (Memorex 48U) from all the past FW deals has Vista drivers. It scans at 600 X 1200, same as the NX100.

Not necessary. I am not sure the Epson, because I do not have one, however most of the printers come with starter cartridge or toner, which is not the same as full retail cartridges or toners.
That is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE !!!! They DO NOT come with starter cartridges. They are FULL SIZE cartridges. They only problem is that Epson inks run out quickly. The printers are ink hogs.
saw these, read Amazon, didn't buy. If you want another alternative, Targets in Orange County, CA also had HP F4280 all-in-ones for 34.98. Amazon has much more positive reviews for it, although many complain of too much bloated software, and difficult installations. Link: Amazon HP F4280 Product Page

IMO, buying an HP whchh has 3 colors in one cart is not a good idea. Epson has separate. Uses 4 carts. And if not printing pics the generics for Epson is the way to go.

There are still quite a few Epson NX100 printer left for $20.98 @ Target, Newark, CA (Bay Area) as of this morning... Great Deal....
Amazon.com shows this product's list price as $29.99, so do the stickers on the printers' boxes when you purchase at Target stores. Also, Target sells this for $29.99 through Amazon Marketplace. I bought all four yesterday at a Target in Oregon with no tax, decided that it's not really a good deal so returned them all today. It's only 30% off and reviews are really bad.

If it came with T088 ink cartridges, those are the equivalent of starter cartridges. T069 are the full size cartridges.
No. This printer takes BOTH 88 and 69 cartridges. 88's are somewhat cheaper than 69's but both are full size. The 69's come with the more expensive NX 400.
The 69's are smudgeproof or something like that but since this printer also uses 88's it is the better deal. Also the 4 cartridges can be turned into $12 in Staples ink rewards.
LetsGoMets1 said: Dude.... you are clueless and are giving out BOGUS information. They are both the same size cartridge and both hold the same amount of ink. Why are you trying to mislead?
Winton....bring on the red genius.I've used both 69 and 88 in the same printer...you clearly haven't. You can't even get your facts straight in your first post on this, nor it seems can you even be bothered to visit the Epson website before posting. You're the one misleading yourself and others into thinking that as long as the cartridges are the same physical size, they must contain the same amount of ink...as if it's impossible to fill them with different amounts of ink.
