any eBay site. RP-SMA is the most popular out there. just pay careful attention to the thickness of the screw on part. I've got some that had huge round metal screw-on portions that exceeded the case design had to file down the case a little bit.
and yes there is a rare SMA (RP = reverse peniz not reverse polarity). google it if you don't believe me.

OR...
Just bite the bullet on the rebate and go with a known source
I thought I heard someone wispering about fake and counterfit antennas that LOOK like they work but inside it's just bent hangers, aluminum foil, and popsicle sticks.

In TV?? Sorry I don't get you... This is a wifi antenna...
rigor said: dude read up on how to roll your own 7dbi antenna. what do you think they are? a wound coil and a piece of wire.
no magic to the 9.99AR antenna.
heck a freeantenna may work even better for about 10 cents. tinfoil and cardboard
That one makes it unidirectional, so your suggestion might not apply to all. If you need omnidirectional, so far the DIY method I got online is too hard for me... (http://wireless.gumph.org/articles/homemadeomni.html)

Bought this two years ago with the same rebate from Buy.com. The rebate came quickly. I guess you have to decide if $9.99 AR is worth it with a known company versus going the eBay/China option.

This rebate is not from Buy.com (it's actually from D-Link itself) so I'm not too concerned. You can buy from other retailers and pay a little more (Newegg would net to be $11.99 with rebate) if you're that concerned.
I was actually mowing the lawn listening to Internet radio with my recently purchased Ipod Touch yesterday and was amazed at how far I could go (about 50 yards from my router) before losing the signal. So I thought I'd give this a shot and see if it boosts it even further. Average rating of 4 stars with 106 reviews doesn't sound like too much of a crap shoot.
