On lesson I have learned is NEVER call and ask a store employee about a "hot item" possibly being sold for a really good price. You are basically telling them about a hot item. You will find that the employee actually might have the item for himself/herself, but for you, they are out of stock. The online stock searcher is not always accurate. It might say the item is out of stock, but in reality the store has the item. For this item, I would walk in and check.

Is this a single or dual hose model?
If it is single hose, it probably isn't worth even $99 ..to me. The reason is that with a single hose you are only blowing (hot) air out and, since your house/apartment/room isn't turning into a vacuum, that air is being replace by outside air being sucked right back into your house/apartment/room from every crack/crevice in your house/apartment/room. Usually, that air (the air being sucked in) is hot air ...since you are trying to air condition your space. Not a very efficient or reasonable design. If this doesn't make sense to you, let me know and I'll explain in more detail.
The dual hose models suck outside air in via one hose, run that air over the heat exchanger/radiator, the blow it out via the second hose. A seperate air path sucks air from you room, cools it, and blows it back into your room.
If you live in a humid area, the "self evaporating" feature may not be all it's cracked up to be and you may find yourself emptying pans or trays. Moreover, if and when the water evaporates, it's evaporating right back into the cooled living space, which makes the air there feel warmer. One of the main benefits of a central or window a/c unit is that it extracts water from the air and dumps it outside. Dry air feels cooler.
It would have been nice to have grabbed one of these for hurricane season use, but alas there are none in Louisiana that I can find...

Thanks OP, found and purchased one for next summer. While the inventory checker link isn't realtime, it has a considerable degree of accuracy (ie shows limited availability and then out of stock after a while after my purchase of the sole unit).

Great! I suspect there was only 1 or 2 available at the stores that had them anyway. Another thread found the 5200 BTU window units for 27.00 and seems there may have been more of those.
Local Target has been showing Limited Availability since yesterday night. Drove there to only find they don't have any. Another close by Target was showing Limited Availability yesterday night and Out of Stock this morning so I decided to take a chance thinking the system is accurate.
Any how. Picked up a 6000 BTU Haier window unit with Energy Star rating and a programmable digital thermostat for $44.99.
All their A/C Units at the local Target are marked 75% off.

I went to out today looking for a dehumidifier thinking they would be on clearance. Home Depot, Lowes, K-Mart still had them at regular price. I went to Target and they did not have any left but, did have a 7,000 btu Commercial Cool portable ac marked down to $150 which was 50% off and bought it. I wished they had this one but, oh well maybe next time.

I just returned the 7000 BTU version (single hose) of this A/C ($300 @ 30% off clearance = $209). It couldn't even cool off my room (less that 300 sq/ft). My floor fan cooled better. It also had a ton of water in it, even though it felt like it wasn't doing much.
When I returned it, The clerk checked it, and since it looked like it was never used she said she's just going to put it back on the floor. I saw the clearance sticker reprint @ $149.99. I wouldn't even rebuy it at that price.
