Using this in combo drops it to $4.99 AR ($19.99 - $15.00 rebate) so there are options (Artec speakers or mouse that are FAR when used in combo) to get this cheaper.
I have the OCZ Vanquish cooler which I believe is the model below this one. The Vanquish replaced an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro that had cheap pushpin fasteners that broke and it was better in every single way than the Arctic Cooling model. Using the same Arctic Cooling Ceramique thermal paste, the OCZ was noticeably quieter, yet cooled about 2 deg. C cooler at idle and 2-3 deg. C cooler at load than the Freezer 7 Pro. The OCZ also had pushpin fasteners, but they were sturdier than those on the Freezer 7 Pro. Having dealt with OCZ tech support with other products, I thought they were very knowledgeable and responsive. In contrast, Arctic Cooling's CS told me that I should get new pushpin fasteners to replace their defective ones from the place which sold me the Freezer 7 Pro or else pull the pushpins from my stock Intel cooler. When I responded by telling them the retailer where I purchased their cooler didn't have any extra pushpins and I should not have to cannibalize my other equipment to replace their defective parts, they refused to respond to five subsequent requests for new pushpins.
Moral of the story: this is an excellent deal on what I anticipate will be an excellent product from a very good company, much better than the oft-cited industry standard budget cooler, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

I cannot vouch for artec but I've done many OCZ rebates with ZERO issues. They may be a little slow at times but I've gotten them all (at least 10). YMMV but make copies of EVERYTHING and you should be OK.

I would point it in the same direction as the rear case fan.
Ditto! I would point your new Vandetta CPU fan "pushing" air toward your rear fan so that your rear fan can immediately suck that hot air out of your nice computer case.
I tried researching this on youtube last night. It is my understanding the fan on the heat sink sucks air in and then pushes it through the fins. So if I want to vent to the rear fan, The cooler's fan would be facing forward?
I did see some professional builds with the fan on the botton, where I guess the air flow is blowing up, and in my case to the top fan for exhaust?
Finally, would there be any benefit to mounting an extra fan to cool my internal drives?
I am not an expert at all. But after looking at the Vandetta, And MANY reviews and youtube installations, A lot of these coolers, no matter what the brand are made by the same company in China. The copper heat pipes, finss, and even the rubber pint to attach the fan are all the same. It seems the ones in the $50+ range come with better mounting options, screw down instead of push pin, rear mounting plates.

Yeah, this looks very similar in design to the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 that I picked up FAR at Fry's last week, although this OCZ looks better (heavier/more solid/etc.).

Thanks.
MyMiural,
Mounting your fan depends a lot upon your present configuration. If you have a rear fan sucking air out of your case, then it would be a great idea to mount your Vandetta CPU fan facing away from your rear exhaust fan. That way your cpu fan is drawing air across your cpu and then shooting it right to the rear computer case exhaust fan.
One of my favorite ways to hook up fans is this way:
Rear case exhaust fan<<<<<<<<<<CPU fan<<<<<<<<<Front intake fans
[air flows from right to left in this diagram].
This way the fresh filtered airflow is coming in through the front of the case, passing over/under my hard drives, across my ram sticks, through the CPU fan, and finally exiting out the back of the case. Thus, there is a constant and direct airflow over my hard drives, RAM, and CPU. The only drawback on this set up is a lack of direct and constant airflow over my video card. Non-overclocked video cards with excellent onboard fans pretty much are ok without a extra fan. Overclocked video cards may be more of a challenge. This can be alleviated by installing a smaller 80mm fan on the side of the computer case to suck out/blow upon the video card.
I hope this helps you.
For computer cases with top mounted exhaust fans the airflow would be completed different.
Thanks for the advice. I'm going airflow from front of case to CPU cooler to exhaust fan. But there is also an exhaust fan at the top of case above Cooler?
but there is a problem. Stock e8400 at 3ghz, I was getting mid to high 50C. Now with the new cooler I'm getting low 50C?? How come I read others getting 10-20C decrease? I used artic Silver 5?
got mine today, this cooler is great. Phenom II 550 @ 3.8ghz under prime95, maxes out at 41C. 28-29C idle. this is using the included white silicon paste.
