It gets really hot in here you know... just watch craigslist
op this is already covered in target clearance thread
this use to be good size for BRs in FL, however it is not too hot (global warming) so I find that I was using 8K but now using 10-12 K BTUs, lot more expensive!

Global warming my thermostat! In the good old days before the tree huggers stopped smoking dope and wearing flowers in their hair - the smallest air conditioners were 6000 BTU. That size was a good match to a typical bedroom or den. Now we have the smaller 5200 BTU size which while being far more efficient than the older models, are just barely enough for a cooler climate than what those in the southern states endure during the summer.
Also these cheap Korean and China A/C units seem to have inflated capability ratings. IOW they "just ain't got it" vs. those of just a few years ago it seems. Granted, I am in Indiana where we had a much cooler than normal summer (global warming you say? hehehe ) I have a 8K unit in the master bedroom to compliment the 18K unit in the main living area. It's a fairly late model US made Fridgidaire and it's a mean machine. Not only does it cool the master bedroom, but the other 2 bedrooms and a large bathroom.
Now pardon me as I put on my global warming flame suit
Curious where your Frigidaire unit was manufactured.

I just looked - it was manufactured in April of 2003 in Augusta, GA. I purchased this unit in the FW tradition - I ordered it from Amazon (as I recall) during the winter of 2004 and got a really good deal. I recall paying around $250, where locally in the summer of 2003, they were selling for $350 locally. Note that it is a casement/slider type, as I have sliding windows - so that cranked up the price.
Anyone know what the EER rating on these is? Great price for sure.

I actually own this model and am currently using it for my bedroom. When the fan is blowing it is pretty quiet, but when the AC kicks in it can get a little noisy. Does an amazing job of cooling down my bedroom though. It keeps my room icy cold while I wrap up in blankets and sleep, and for the price it's a great deal.

I love the cold myself.... I have an 8000 BTU A/C Frigidair in my bedroom and sometimes I want something bigger.
Amazing price on an A/C I might get one or two if it's got a decent EER rating.

Well, first off what you wrote doesn't even make sense ... change "not" to "now" and it is a little better.
PS: since its global temps are going down not up .. the term has now been officially changed to "climate change" .. that way they can try to guilt trip us no matter what direction the temp goes. LAME.
PPS: great price, green and thanks for looking out for us ....

Not all of them!!! They do at my local Target. I drove in hopes of finding the portable one for $99 as the inventory said they had Low stock. They didn't have any. They did have these but they are not Energy Star rated. They also had the 6000 BTU model with a remote and 24 hour programmable digital thermostat and is Energy Star rated for $44.99. I picked that one up. For about double the price, I feel it looked to be a better over all deal as its normal price was $179.99.
Thanks OP. Needed one for my bonus room.
Now, since this is my first ever window A/C, any tips for a window a/c unit nubie?
Haier trustworthy lol. It's always one of the worst if not the worst in evey rating for everything they sell. I'm not sure why people take a chance a buy them hoping they will be the few that get a good one. bwman said: 27.xx! really a great deal. btw, based on my experience, Haier actually is a trustworthy Chinese brand
Green for OP, went there just to see if they had any and walked out with the last A/c they had for sale period. got a Haier 10,000 Btu for 64.98 (orig 259). Very Happy, plugged it in to test and now stored it till April
ktbst said: Ellicott City, MD still has about 10 of these left. I purchased two. Thanks!
Thanks! I happened to be right over that way when I read this earlier, and sure enough, there were about 6 or so around 5pm today. Thanks for posting this and saving me the run around looking for them.
I'm excited for next summer now, it'll be awesome to have A/C in more than one room!

Could not find one in our local target store - East SF Bay. It would be a great deal to battle the last heat weave this year.
