This is a SDG&E Promotion at Costco B&M, so you'll see that only in Costco's in SDGE areas, unless they struck that deal with other utilities too.
It's $10 off the 19.99 for a 65W fluorescent outdoor floodlight from Lights of America. The light output is supposed to be like 500W traditional floodlight. It's in a weatherproof casing with a sensor for dusk to dawn operation.
For those not in SDGE area there still is a good deal on the 6pk R30 reflector lights: It's $6 off of $17.39 until 11/30/09. These are 15W (65W equiv.) with internal reflectors.
some of the newer CFLs have an integrated heater that warms up the element before it strikes. might take a bit longer in cold weather to reach max brightness, but it'd still work alright. just don't use it with motion sensors
I use 60w (300w equ) bulbs for the walking path in my community here in Pennsylvania. When it's 15 degrees out, the bulbs are dim, but for the majority of the year they are fine. The savings on the electric bill are tremendous!
