Was $229.99
Sale $99.99
Expertly forged in France, home to some of the world's most masterful chefs, this fine cutlery set is built for culinary precision. # Set includes: 8" chef's knife, 9" bread knife, 8" slicer, 5" boning knife, 4" parer and sharpening steel
# Handsome, contemporary wood block displays and protects each blade
# Made in France

Please keep in mind that the Sabatier brand has been and is used by a number of companies (some are based in France and others just use the name). The actual one made in France has had a good reputation over the years but the ones that aren't don't. I haven't seen this set...

have all of their "provence" line - very happy! and highly recommend! balanced somehow better than German knifes

It's an EXCELLENT brand of knives. I've had my set for 5 years and they still cut like new

I bougut a couple of Sabatier Provence (made in France) chefs knives (8" and 10") for around $70-$80 EACH. As those above already mentioned, they are excellent knives. If these are the same quality, this is a great deal.

4% bing CB, and upon checkout Macys offers $25 off $100, green for OP!

A week ago they had this set at $89.99 with free shipping.

It is referred to in one of the google searches as a "Lifetime Sabatier"....Lifetime Brands owns Kitchenaid and Cuisinart cookware and also markets knives under the Sabatier brand.

It may be a very nice set...forged in France is a good thing...but it does not appear to be from the same Sabatier as the Sabatier Provence stuff.

EDIT: OP was right, the French Sabatier Diamant website points out no one owns the Sabatier Name:

Is it genuine?

why didn't you post?!

One thing I can say for sure... That's one nice looking knife block! It sure beats the typical mono-block design!

The good thing is that they are forged in France. All of the information I've read on the net seems to say that if it's not French, then then it's not legit and probably a poor knife.

I have one personal rule when spending more than $10 for a knife.

Do not buy unless they show you the knife.

I see 5 plastic and 1 wood handles in a stylin $25 block.

If you can show me ANY photo of a knife in this series and I will take it seriously.

This is some kind of one-off set made by Lifetime for Macy's. That's fine, the Kitchenaid/Cuisinart knives sets look nice on the counter and do not rust.

They are not serious knives. I see nothing that says this set is worth more than the $100 they are asking.

Here's an example of the cheap Sabatier knife sets - link. You will notice that for the same $99.99, you get a $99.99 set - stamped knives without a mention of country of origin in a standard block....

Where is butcher to comment? How do these compare to Shun?

Anyone have any free shipping code? $12.95 shipping is hurting the wallet

Dead? all links showing up $399 again.

Probably a limited time special.

I still see $99.99.

If I was in the market, I'd buy them. Heck, Macy's is legitimate and will accept refunds.

They look good to me (and I'm a big Japanese Knife fan).

YOUSAVE = FREE SHIPPING

Probably a limited time special.

The major department store chains got in trouble a few years back for posting "regular" prices that never existed. They all now raise the price to their marked regular price a few days a month to avoid prosecution.

That said, I agree that Macy's is a good retailer with an excellent return policy so you have nothing much to lose. I hope that those who got in on this let is know what they think and post a least one photo of an actual knife. Does it have the French Sabatier Diamond logo?

am not sharing with you my MANFURminator!!!

The French still make some excellent products.

I ordered them today, I am not happy about them not showing a whole knife, the handles look to be Delphis the lengths match up right the sabatier web site price matches Macy's original retail price. free shipping and easy in store return, I took a chance.

ya think by now I would know how to post a message.

:/ darn typos

You have done some pretty darn good detective work!

I had seen photos of the Delphis line HERE.. I originally thought the Macy's set had much rounder/more modernish handles, but on closer inspection of the Macy's photo the rounded side of the handle that shows could be the top of the Delphis handle and the Macy's handles could have the "potbelly"....it just does not show in the photo.

The sizes are correct too. The sharpening steel in the Macy's photo looks to have a wood handle, it does not seem to match the set, or the photo of the Delphis steel. Still, you now have me tempted. I too have Macy's around here I could return them to.

I DO NOT NEED MORE KNIVES!!!!! Must resist!

Now $90 with free shipping over $100 (need a $10 filler).

If someone has ordered these and can comment on them, compare to the Delphis models, etc. it would be greatly appreciated!

FYI, in case anyone wants to purchase them in the future when price drops again (tx to all--snatched one when it was reduced again down to $90)

Not much of a knife expert, but wanted a nice set for the new home. Not sure these are the real Sabatiers, though the knives are made in France & are fully forged, feel sharp and have decent weight to them. Haven't tested them yet b/c still debating.

The box that the set is packaged in is just a normal brown shipping box--no Sabatier designation. The knives themselves appear to most resemble the Sabatier Delphis, though they don't have the authentic diamond (diamont), so are unlikely to be true delphis --The Macy's set has a lion-dragon chimera emblem with an NSF certification stamp (see close up pics) (Other Sabatiers have a variety of emblems depending on maker. Here's useful wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabatier . None from what I quickly glanced through show the markings from this Macy's set, though closest 'animal' is the Lion Sabatier that usually has 2 lion heads or a jumping lion though. One authenticity requirement is that the knives be manufactured in Thiers, France as opposed to other countries.)

The two BIG disappointments (!!):
1. The knife sharpener is NOT Sabatier...it doesn't even match the set--It has a rosewood handle, is ceramic steel, made in China =(.
2. The wood block legs seem non-sturdy and cheaply made--doesn't match the rest of the block body, which feels more solid (also made in China as stated on the box in which the block came. No Sabatier designation, but has the matching lion-dragon chimera on top. The internal slots don't seem to be well sanded as there were a lot of obvious splinters.

Random oddity: Not sure why they chef parer & boning knife both have the same manufacturing part # to them??

It's pretty misleading of Macy's to not specify that the knife sharpener is not Sabatier &is made in China (esp since they explicitly state "Made in France". Not sure if I'll keep it-- would feel more confident if it had the diamond, K, or two lion head emblems on it which are more traditional. They seem like a great set, but hate to feel like you're getting shafted on the real thing.

Anyone received theirs & have used the knives? Thoughts?

Yosemite,
Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts and the photos. They indeed look like the Delphis line, or a Delphis knockoff. The only other reference to this set I have seen referred to them as "Lifetime Sabatier" and Lifetime Cutlery brands do include Sabatier, along with Kitchenaid and Cuisinart.

My guess is they may be actual Delphis, or made in the same factory, but imported and marketed by Lifetime instead of Diamante, hence, no diamond. The Diamante Delphis knives sell for between $60-$110 apiece (though that may be a bit inflated as they are not imported in any quantity), so they seem well worth what you paid. If they feel well balanced and cut well then you got a deal. I agree that the block looks a bit disapointing...but you can often find excellent blocks cheap.

Thanks again for the photos.

You don't need more links, you need to link at the right time.
At this second the sett is back to $99 plus shipping.

$90 free ship seems the best deal so far.

says Made in China on the box

This deal was live again last night for $89 with free shipping. I ordered a set..will see what the quality is. Just posting for anyone who missed it I think if you watch daily the deal comes and goes..

I've seen this knife block + one plastic handle knife at TJ Maxx selling for $9.99 just yesterday. I was laughing inside just to think I was about to buy these at $89.99 thinking it was a steal vs the advertised retail of $500+ on Macys.com- Then I was flabbergasted that I've also seen a particular rug I wanted to purchase on Overstock was availible at Macy's too.. except it was 10X the price! REALLY.. 10! So I have come to believe any sale at Macy's is not a sale at all.

Absolutely I did, though I own a mix of each. Not all forged knives are automatically greater than all stamped knives. There are varying levels of each. I don't think the thousands of butchers and professional kitchens who use Forshner Victorinox on a daily basis are doing so because they're "settling for stamped".

For some jobs, though, I do prefer the heft and feel of heavier, forged knives.
