I had one of these for probably 15 years before I tossed it because the cord was getting dangerous and it had plenty of use. Great for pancakes, but if you're looking for a waffle maker this isn't the one to buy. Get the Waring waffle maker at Amazon or Costco. Can usually be had at Costco around $50, Amazon from $60-80 although you might catch it on a better sale.
I actually just bought one of these at Goodwill that's branded GE from about 30 years ago by my guess. It's build quality is great and the one i got is in near perfect shape. It takes some practice to get the waffles to cook right and not stick, but it's a good machine once you know how to use it.
If this is exactly the same, this isn't a bad deal...but the waring from costcos is a better design for most people. This makes thinner waffels, and the outside gets extremely, dangerously hot. Black and Decker isn't a brand I buy normally, but this might be an exception.
I dont know what it is, but I dont want a belgian waffle maker... and it seems thats all you can find these days. My mom tossed out my old waffle maker during a move thinking it would be easy to replace, but its been very hard. But I want a waffle maker thats smaller than this. I recently found a proper waffle maker on the "Good Eats" show with Alton Brown... its called a Villaware Classic waffle maker and looks to be made exclusively for Williams Sonoma. Its $60...
Any one know of a comparable waffle maker? note that the holes are much smaller on a normal waffle maker opposed to huge belgian waffles which I belive require a different batter... I'm not sure but they dont get crispy at all... just floppy and never cooked in the middle (using a normal waffle recipe.
