I haven't ordered a Reconditioned gateway PC before - but the components in this card look to be good in terms of technology and a good value for a mid level gaming PC - multi-tasking with the Core i7 920 quad core - 8 thread CPU - and 4850 Video card included.

Can anyone tell me if this would be a good computer for photo and video editing? Would i need to increase the RAM? Does this qualify for a Windows 7 upgrade?

Thanks for the help

Refurb USUALLY doesn't qualify for 7 upgrade.

For Photo editing at a Semi Pro level (If you have Photoshop CSx and KNOW how to use it) then I would upgrade the RAM.
Being its preloaded with 64bit already, this is as simple as dropping another 3 RAM sticks into the machine.
Could get a 6GB Kit for around $100 when on sale for a total of 9GB of RAM in the machine.

Video / photo editing is very CPU intensive - the Core i7 920 is an excellent CPU for video / photo editing. You'd probably want more than 3 GB ram though.

You can add
3x1 3GB DDR3 @ Newegg for around 70.00
3x2 6GB quality RAM for as low as 110

I bought this from Tiger Direct a couple months ago for the same price. This machine will do pretty much whatever you need it to do, but I'd recommend upgrading the RAM. I bought 6GB from Newegg for about $100 after rebate. Also it runs very hot so download speedfan and learn how to configure it. That's about the only downside to it. Mine came with a 1GB video card and many others are getting the same thing so that's a nice perk.

agreed.

and while 6gb is pretty standard for this level of machine and plenty for x64, getting an additional 6gb kit for 9gb total is probably going to be a more worthwhile way to go vs just getting another 3 since editing will be a primary use. My 2 cents.

Specs seem pretty strong for that type of discounted price. Alot of reviewers criticize the tech support and such, but alot of reviewers only post if there are issues, the happy folks tend to not voice themselves as often. I ordered one and ETA is 13 October. I buy many PC items refurb and have had no issues thus far with any of them. Definitely throw in at least 3 more Gig of RAM though to really punch it up, and 64 bit OS will help make use of every bit. The reviews also state the case has 2 front external removable hard drive bays, so that is a unique feature to run into as well. All in all, this seems like a strong system with a unique case for the price.
