I would jump on this if it wasn't for the Rosewill dock. Thanks though

If OP put the price in the title, wouldn't have gotten the view count up.

I have two Rosewill docks that are far better built than some other brands I use. And cheaper. The unit is heavier than most and less worry about tipping over.

As to the drive I have three of this model that I use for long term storage where daily speed is not an issue. I did get one that was bad but Newegg made it right inspite of a
screwup with UPS. They would not accept the RMA without me paying almost ten bucks.

if you want a samsung 1tb instead of the seagate, samsung, it's the same price.

hmm.. good idea.. I don't trust seagate as much as I used to after the whole firmware issues of earlier this year

TiVo users beware of the Samsung drive.
This drive will NOT work in TiVo. I wasted many an hour thinking that I had done something wrong in the upgade but as soon as I changed drives it works fine. I wish I had looked at the Tivocommunity.com forums BERFORE I bought this, where it was stated that this drive is a TiVo dud! This WILL work as an EXTERNAL drive for a TiVo, that is what I ended up doing with it.

How loud are these drives. I have a pair of 7200.9 in raid and theyare pretty loud.

Again buddhawood....as stated in the other thread, the samsung works fine with the TivoHD. Not sure what model you were using, but multiple people have reported success with the samsung drive, including myself.

so what do you guys recommend, the samsung or seagate drive?

5900 rpm?

alert mods
rated:

seagate = 5900 RPM
Samsung = 5400 RPM

That's pretty much irrelevant though -- any thoughts on which brand is better/more reliable?

Which is better - seagate deal or samsung? I know I'm opening a can of worms here

meh -
couldn't decide -- pulled the trigger on the samsung drive...added a pci - 1x card that has internal SATA II and eSata II (2 each). I know-I know...Sata II protocol is 3gbps and the PCI 1x slot is only 2.5gbps...but it was for $20 plus $6 shipping (was $10 off and cheapest I could find)...Rosewill RC-216
TY OP -- this is what I was looking for...now if Dell can only put those 1.5TB drives on sale again (2 for $199)

I used these Samsung drives on my TiVo Series 3 and TiVo HD and they have been working fine for many months now.

Has anyone used the Seagate in this thread successfully in an HD TiVo upgrade?
