These are based on the Mossberg 500, and replacement barrels for the 500 fit the Maverick. (e.g., rifled slug barrels or long waterfowl barrels are readily available, and inexpensive.) Not a Remington, but reviews say it is a very serviceable (and affordable) shotgun. 6 round capacity.

(Other Mavericks w/ different barrel and capacity are only a few dollars more.)

The shipping is included in the price, and I've had good service from Buds in several prior purchases. If you take off about $20 for shipping, the Maverick would be around $168, which is about what I paid on sale w/sales tax five years ago!

If you have to own a Remington, they've got used police shotguns for $270, but be aware, barrels and chokes are a lot more expensive than Mossberg.

I pay about $15 FLL fees in SE PA.

ok deal. These are $169.99 everyday at Academy and WalMart is usually a few dollars cheaper on these basic models. Good to know the 500 series barrels work on them though.

Can the stock be replaced with a 500 series pistol grip?

I want to open an account at that bank that gives you a free gun for opening an account.

Thanks for that info. Still, the Academy deal doesn't include the 18.5" barrel, only the 26" or 28"; figure on about $80 for the short barrel + S/H, unless you can find it on occasional clearance or auction, so you'd be out over $250 plus taxes or S/H. Wish that Academy had stores in the Northeast, or that Wally's stores anywhere in my region sold shotguns any more, but there are no competitors to Dicks left in the drivable region. Used to be able to buy these on sale at Sports-Authority, but, again, no more weapons in the stores in our region. I've got nothing against private dealers, either, but have found entry pricing for all weapons is pretty high absent much stiff competition. The only real choice is finding a good mail order deal and a cheap but competent FLL nearby, and the sales tax savings of mail order just about covers most FLL cost as long as the shipping costs don't eat you up!
