Spec them out the same. Not a slower processor (semi-relative here), smaller HD, and a lower res screen. And Dell should be paying you to put McAfee on your computer...
I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not but I do know that gaming laptops do bring a premium. Dual 320gb 7200rpm HD is also nice. Ha! I didn't see that Buy.com had these. They didn't the last time I looked. Good find. Same laptop at a slightly lower price. Thanks proefain!
Here is the Dell spec'd out the same, or at least as close as I can get it. Not quite as big of a HD, and the Dell can only handle a single internal drive. Remember, the Asus has a true 1080p RGBLED screen, Bluetooth, true EAX 4.0, a backpack case, and a 1 year warranty that covers accidental damage and spills.
As you see, the Dell is priced about $300-400 more, and won't ship until 11/4 because the Core i7 machines aren't being released until Windows 7 ships.

I would personally take the OP deal over the Dell ones posted. For two reasons first I hate ATI video cards they don't play well with Linux and their drivers are shite. Second and the number one reason is because I hate Dell. My sisters nearly 3000 dollar laptop died completely after about 3 years of use. First the screen started failing by getting lines over it which from what I understand was common problem that Dell refused to acknowledge. Then just about a month ago the entire screen shut off and the laptop refuses to even turn on. Tried everything it doesn't work. I had similar luck with Gateway. I have an HP laptop and it's been going strong since 2003. Dell and Gateway can suck it.
It's shame it's so hard to find parts to build your own laptop so we are stuck buying the crap these companies spit out. I've been building my own computers for years and would love to build my own laptop.

Anyone thinking of buying this - please check out the newer version Asus G51j - comes with the new i7mobile CPU & Win 7 - but otherwise same / similar specs and can be found for about $100 less (not sure why).
I just bought my G51J from GenetechPC. I should be getting it by Monday. As an authorized ASUS system builder, they can do some modifications to the stock laptop and it will still be under the manufacturer's warranty. So I added on the IC Diamond Thermal Paste on the CPU and GPU, a Blu-Ray drive, and bumped the memory speed up. I ended up paying $1725, but the stock version is less. They will PM other online dealers who have the laptop in stock, so if you find a cheaper price, don't hesitate to call them on the phone. Speaking of which... Support on the phone as EXTRAORDINARY! I did a lot of research, and this vendor is extremely well thought of in gaming laptop circles. Their service after the sale is reported to be incredible as well. Highly recommended!
