Praise be to Lord Delmar at ppcgeeks. It seems that Sprint is allowing unhappy Touch Pro users to exchange for the Touch Pro2, among other devices, due to multiple defects on the Touch Pro. Due to many MANY returns of Touch Pros, Sprint is asking their dealers to direct customers who come in with a broken TP to a new device.
Sprint Advance Exchange still only offers a replacement Touch Pro. Apparently, you will only get offered a Touch Pro 2 if you visit a store and show to their satisfaction that the unit is not repairable.
I've got an HTC PPC9800 sitting around the house that I used on Alltel before I got my iPhone, and that phone has made me swear off HTC and Windows Mobile forever. It's going to take a lot to get me to buy one of their phones again. Buggy as all hell from the get go. I felt like an Alpha Tester the entire 2-years of my contract...

my touch pro has gotten ridiculously slow. says replacement, "UTStarcom Touch Pro" for me.
My phone occasionally overheats after a night of charging, and locks up. If I can trigger that, I can probably bring the phone into a store (still locked up) and get a Touch Pro 2.

Good news, thanks. My keyboard is broke, will give it a shot.
craaap I just got my touch pro replaced under warranty. Hopefully I can coax the keyboard to not work again on this one to swap up before the 1 year is up in november.
Much better then the HTC Snap they were offering last week... A little bummed I just got my touch pro replaced for a Blackberry Tour. I'm shocked how much I like it though, and am debating if I want to complain and get the tp2.
Some buzzwords for replacement: Overheats on long phone calls and powers off even while plugged in to the wall. Locks up overnight while charging Missed calls due to screen refresh issues (especially while texting) Missed alarms Poor keyboard and many more...

I'm on my second TP, just got it a month ago, replaced under warranty. Do I have new 1 year warranty on the replacement, or the remainder of original warranty?
I've got the Touch Pro & it's working fine besides it freezing a couple times, nothing enough to need a new one yet... Anything I can say to act like the phone sucks to get a replacement Touch Pro 2?
Mine seems to work fine but randomly it will just drain the battery. Is this one of the issues you are having?
I brought it to the Sprint Store about a month ago and they gave me a new battery. I read online it is a problem for some with early models (I have an early one) Is there a fix for this? I hate that some days my battery drains from 100% to 10% in hours without me using it! Then I have to remove the battery, re-insert it, and hope it works right the next time!
It'll be hard to argue on the software part like slow, or freeze up. Coz they can just do a full reset to put it back to factory settings. I know some ROMs save more battery than the others. I flashed mine with Verizon ROM and it works better in my case for my Win 6.5
Though my LCD liquid is busted and it looks ugly, still works like normal though. Wonder if I can argue my way out of this. Please let us know if someone succeeded!

I'm in the process of switching my wife over to page plus. She has a touch pro that we just got a warranty replacement on because the vibrate quit working. Just picked the phone up 2 days ago. I wanted a "new" phone before i cancelled her contract. Now we may have to keep the account active until something goes wrong with the replacement. If we would have only waited one more week. We had a totally legitamate problem with the phone.
Edit: I decided that I'm going to take the phone back in tomorrow and give it a shot. Someone help me out with several problems I may be having with the phone. I'll report back tomorrow night with my experience.
was the TP that bad? I always wanted that phone but it was out of my budget. I didn't know it had so many problems. My current spring phone gets burning hot while i talk and charge at same time. I thought thats normal for all phones
I bought a TP2 for my 2nd line and its great. Sound quality is much better, speakerphone is great and I love the larger screen. Plus this one doesn't get hot (not so far anyways) while talking like my TP did.

I was wondering the same thing. I've got a TP (AT&T Fuze) that has been rock solid. Oh, sure, it only last for 4 hours on a charge if I have the GPS and display running constantly during a golf round (caddy software), but with everything normal (wifi off, bt on, radio on in a marginal signal area) I have about 60% charge remaining on Monday morning after pulling it out of my desk charger on Friday at 5pm. My keyboard works fine. Everything works fine, except the browsers - all of which seem to be slow and buggy (skyfire, ie, opera). Maybe it's just the non-GSM versions.

You have a new warranty from the date you receive the new replacement phone.

Sounds like this is really a YMMV scenario. Take it in and have the reps evaluate it.
big time YMMV. i recently got them to heavily discount a TP2 after complaining about my TP1. now to sell the TP1 on eBay.... (or to a fatwalleter who thinks he can swing the deal to upgrade it for free to the TP2

Just walked into my Sprint service center, explained I was on my second TP2 both had issues missing calls in my house (where my Mogul never had that problem). Replacement TP2 is on it's way!
I'm not on Sprint, but I know a hot deal when I see one. Green to OP.
I hope all you Sprint people don't meet much resistance on this.

heh, i almost wish my touch pro was having problems, as i'd love the bigger screen of the tp2. my touch pro has been pretty solid, though, aside from occasional software slowdowns, battery drainage, etc. i do use custom ROMs on mine, which probably helps some. and sprint actually provided two batteries for the touch pro, anticipating frustration with the battery life.
my touch pro was a free replacement for the mogul. it would be sweet to get a bump up to the tp2 as well!

for whomever is still stuck with the touch pro, if it is starting to run slow, go to file explorer and then go to messaging. Delete all the files in that folder and you should see a big difference in the phone's performance. You should do this every so often since it keeps a cache of all your messages which really slows down the phone. hope this helps!

For those that have gone through multiple touch pro's, I really question whether you guys have defective phones, or you're just a. being anal, b. Aren't operating your phone properly, or c. are expecting some magical performance out of the phone which is not possible. Granted, I've "only" had my TP for about 6 months, but I've had little/no real problems with it, and neither have a couple other people I know that own a TP. The few times I actually had problems with it, was due to myself installing some incompatible software on it. Yes, I think you pretty much "need" to "reset" your phone (as in hard reset) probably every 6 months or so, which some folks may find unappealing, but that's the reality imo. Regular reboots every few days are mandatory and should be expected with any of these devices.
If you're having problems with your phone, I'd suggest searching online regarding fixes/tweaks/etc. Like the previous poster said, clearing your caches for programs is a MUST on a periodic basis, or it'll slow down the phone. The reality is that windows mobile phones aren't like a cheap flip phone that you can just use and not worry about. It's more of a computer (with limited memory) that you have to "clean up" periodically.
On that note, if you're getting a touch pro and expect it to be as carefree as an iphone, unfortunately that's just not the case. It will require a little TLC imo from time to time to resolve some issues. Obviously, if you have physical problems with the phone, that's another story entirely, but I'm mainly referring to software issues. Usually a reboot will do the trick, if not try a hard reset.
Shut up if you don't own one or have on without an issue. I am on my 3rd one in 10 months. Try talking on the phone and it locks up on you. How about charging at night and it does the same. How about the battery drains in 12 hours with hardly any phone usage such as a call or text. And better yet, the phone gets hot eventhough you are not using it and just wearing it on your belt.

I'm not seeing anyone here who has successfully exchanged a defective Touch Pro for a Touch Pro 2. I have a genuinely defective Touch Pro and I went to the Sprint store for an exchange. They agreed my Touch Pro was defective, but said I could only exchange it for a phone on their exchange list and that the Touch Pro 2 was only available as a replacement in "extreme" conditions, such as their not having anything else to replace your Touch Pro with. I ended up getting a Palm Treo Pro. I am wondering if I should have held my ground for Touch Pro 2. I have had a nightmare with the Touch Pro, so I am not sure the Touch Pro 2 would be a good idea and I don't want to demand something I might regret, but if the Touch Pro 2 is better, I will wish I had it. Back to the original question though, has anyone here successfully exchanged a defective Touch Pro for a Touch Pro 2?
i changed my touch to a touch pro2 about half a year ago. Had to spend 2 hours on the phone . They ended up sending it to me and i had to send my phone back. next month i received a charge of 740 + something dollars and then had to spend 6 hours (kid you not) on the phone to get it adjusted, as no one knew what i was talking about
