when I apply the coupon there is a disclaimer that says it excludes yamaha products among others, but it still works and the only item in my cart is a yamaha receiver. Does the email say there are any restrictions?

The restriction in the e-mail was the same one that shows up on the site when I applied the code:
Cannot be combined with any other offer. Excludes Bundles, Clearance, Netbooks, Game Consoles, beltronics , Bose, Escort, Shure, Yamaha and select LG, Mitsubishi, Polk Audio, Samsung, and Sony items.
I'm not sure how they're doing this. I may just try it on a few other items and see what happens.
Its plain dumb to shell out that much money for an all-in-one device that will be forced into obsolescence just because of its codec's.
Buy a cheaper receiver ($500) and a multi-ch amp for about the same price. As a bonus, the seperate amp will make your system sound a hell of a lot better.

the coupon work on a Proscan 37" for 547...took off 181.00 with that coupon..its only 365 which is awesome..but the 60 shipping charge kills it for me.

A good amp may make your system sound louder, on the other hand.

Hes saying the amp section in the reciever is not as good as a dedicated amp (separate). You are correct by definition that the amp should just amplify and not color sound but you fail to realize (or at least convey) that the amp section on the receiver is bypasses when using an external amp and the quality of your sound post pre amp is 100% dependant on your amp section and speakers.
The issue here is, to get an amp that can deliver higher quality then the 4810 would cost you thousands on its own.

Got the Yamaha receiver yesterday, coupon code worked for yamaha!
I doubt a properly functioning amplifier would sound any different at the same output level, let alone better, than the amp section in this receiver. Audio codecs in receivers take a slow march. It just so happens that we went through a transitional period for the move from coax/toslink to HDMI. That said, such a similarly capable separate amp would cost as much as this receiver. And if it comes to the day that this receiver's pre-amp/decoder section becomes obsolete, it is at least as capable as a dumb amplifier as any other separate amp at this price level.
So the obsolete argument is moo... you know, like a cow.
