Is it in their clearance section?

it's red tagged...

in the Target I went in, the leather cover is on clearnce too.

Vanns.com have them on clearance for $241.99 with free shipping. Not as good a price, but no tax for most people.

The 505 is the bomb. Reads most any format. I've returned my K1 and KDX and kept the Sony 505!

can someone post the receipt please..

Just got one in Houston too.

you can convert some formats to Sony's .lrf using http://lig2go.com

I'm really not trying to be a naysayer here...could someone explain why I would want a $200 device to read a book when I could just buy a book for around $7? Maybe there is something I don't understand.

Yep.

I've got one of these and love it. I do wish it was backlit though.

calibre (google it) will convert anything to Sony's format. have an old 505 and lighted cover laying around i have to get rid of now that i upgraded to the 600 (touch). these devices rock.

$279.99 in Asheville, NC

Just picked one up in Pasadena, TX. $196 + tax. They had plenty... at least 10.

Best places for D/Ling books? Or, in Fat Wallet language, where's the best pricing for D/Ling eBooks?

here are some off the top some off the top of my head, there are many free book sites out there

mobileread.com
manybooks.net
feedbooks.com

and when you use software like calibre, you can format just about any type of text format you want to native lrf, or other formats compatible with the Sony prs505.

Fry's B&M may have it for 209. Price was marked on one I saw, though shelf tag said 229.

I wish I could find one as this has been getting marked down to this level for a few weeks now but I have been to 4 Targets with no luck

OOS in Romeoville and Joliet IL

I was spot checking Chicagoland Target stores and none of them has it anymore. The store in Plainfield was the only one who told me their last one was sold on clearance at $69 - I hope that's a fellow fw'er

Picked one up in Wake Forest NC for $70 yesterday. Thanks for the heads up.

Got one at $70 at mission viejo ca. I had been spending tens of trips to all the targets around for two weeks now. Does anybody know the DPCI for the light cover?

Personally I'm waiting for an Adobe-certified PDF reader (without all the garbage on a netbook). Just handle PDFs, speedily, in color, and you've got my business. Until then I'll bet these eReaders are going to have the backlights clearanced out of them on BF. Expensive little gadgets, developing technology, 10% unemployment . . . You couldn't get me to pop more than $50 for the very best of these right now. Very grateful the rest of you are funding the technology's ability to innovate however.

I agreed with you two years ago. But for $70 I can't resist, I even wanted to jump last time with SonyStyle credit at $150. The reason is very simple for me, I don't want to hold a laptop to read books. And all my handheld devices are just too small to read, I have to keep pressing turn page button. Be realistic, the color eink is not available, and not in a near future, so at the time it come out, the price won't be pretty at all, I will bet at $500+. But that's the ultimate goal for me too. And I tried a bit yesterday, this little thing handles PDF well, readable, way way better than read on my HTC diamond, I don't read on my diamond at all.
besides, it's selling for $200+ anywhere, I can profit even after I use it for a while

Agreed. And I'll gladly pay it! Hell, I'd pay a grand for the luxury of reading technical books (in particular) in full-color PDF without the cumbersome bulk of a laptop. But no color graphics, no fonts, no hilighting, no commenting — in short, no perfectly-replicated PDF technology — NO SALE.

I just wish I could find these here in VA. I would love to get 2 of these as gifts this year but alas not one Target around here has one (and hasn't for months).

If ANYONE can get me any and is willing to sell at cost + something for your time I would love to hear from you.

Thanks

Greg

There is definitely something you don't understand.

Sure, you can buy 1 book for less than the reader. But 1 reader (with memory card) can hold 100s (maybe 1000s) of books at once. Try carrying around hundreds of books with you without a truck. There are many, many classic books legally available for free, and usually current bestsellers are cheaper in electronic format, so you can actually save money in the long run if you are an avid reader. There is also software that will collect from websites that you specify and make "magazines" to put on your reader. Readers can display photos and play MP3s. Find a $7 book that can do all of that and I'll eat my reader.

As for laptops, PDAs, phones, etc. Yes, they can make decent readers. But if you want a small, portable device with a large screen, easily readable in bright daylight, and a battery life of weeks, then a dedicated reader is the way to go.

The light cover is going for $16.24 in various Target stores.

OK, get your money ready and wait. Nobody cares.

I do nonetheless thank you for purchasing this product. Someone's got to fund this technology. L8r.

I bought the light cover for $16 at the Target in Triadelphia, WV. I did check a few other Target's and they were priced at $32 yesterday (Sunday). I did not see any of the actual readers on clearance there. $70 is a good deal. Wife bought the new pocket ereader for list price of $199 (with a free cover and a few free eBooks). Tried to talk her out of it but she does use it a lot.

Can some post a scan receipt for $69? My local Target store is still selling them for $237.

same here in houston. The price is still 2xx but no one seems to have it. At one store, they have a display but said they dont sell their displays...

i found a Sony cover for the ereader on clearance. I was not able to get my hands on any 505. I would be interested to get from folks who were able to get their hands on multiple 505s.

thanks

As a Sony 505 owner, I have always thought about the safe handling and transport of this device. After having purchased a BookArmor case, I feel that it was money well spent. Although it is not cheap, it is by far the BEST lightweight and robust cover I've ever seen for this reader.
