This seat has never been on sale, so this is the only way to get a discount on this new car seat from Safety 1st! The Safety 1st Complete Air is one of the new car seats that have recently been introduced which allow you to rear face your child to 40 lbs. This should get you to age 3-4 rear facing quite easily, and possibly to age 5-6 depending upon the torso height and weight of your child. The Complete Air features their new Air Protect Technology derived from the movie stunt industry, as well as being one of the few seats that allow you to adjust the strap height from the front of the seat without rethreading the harness system! The Complete Air is also the ONLY car seat that allows the top of child's head to be EVEN with the top of the car seat when determining if the child has outgrown the car seat by height when rear facing. This is a BIG deal, as most children outgrow car seats by height, long before they outgrow them by weight! The Safety 1st Complete Air does NOT fit newborns well at all! Please keep that in mind before purchasing this car seat! Your child needs to be around 7-10 months old to correctly fit in the seat, as the lowest setting on the straps is still relatively high. Remember, the straps must be at or below your child's shoulders for rear facing! We want to keep our kids RF for so long because their neck bones do not begin to ossify, or harden, until right around age three. Until then they are more like cartilage than bone, and can stretch up to two inches in a crash. The problem is that the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 of an inch. This is known as "internal decapitation." Children who are turned FF too early are FIVE TIMES more likely to experience this than those RF. Why? Their heads are disproportionally heavy, and in a crash are thrown forward with great force. This can cause the neck bones to stretch far enough to snap the spinal column which can result in severe spinal cord injuries or even death. Remember, when RF the seat, is outgrown when either your child's weight reaches the maximum allowed by the seat (40 lbs in this case.), or (except the Complete Air) when the top of their head is less than one inch from the top of the shell of the car seat. This applies to infant only bucket seats as well. Also remember that when RF the straps should be at, or below the shoulders, and when FF the straps should be at or above the shoulders. The plastic belt positioning clip (RF or FF) should be at the "tickle spot" right at armpit level. And yes... This is true for newborns as well. Belly clips are BAD! I don't care if you think it looks uncomfortable. It.needs.to.be.there! It is a pre-crash positioning clip and is designed to position the harness in the middle of the ribcage which is a skeletal strong point. I'll also point out that the national average for incorrectly installed car seats is 9 out of 10! So please visit www.safekids.org and find a CPST or car seat check near you with whom you can schedule a free car seat check. You can also visit www.car-seat.org if you have any further questions regarding car seats, car seat safety/installation, or general child passenger safety issues. I post under the same username there as well. Product Description |
