Not a bad deal. Good comment HD
Link

Also has Sony AA battery for 99 cents.

Is this 16mb or 32mb? Circuit City has the 7200 16mb version for $72 after Bing.

Isn't it available online for shipping?

online - $89.99
and 32mb

you sure it is 32? I think it is 16. Can you post the link?

Can someone who bought the drive copy the drive's Hitachi Model # here (from the disk label) so I can find out the platter density? I searched HGST site and didn't find anything that matches "Deskstar HD31000IDK/7K". Weird.

Do retail kits typically come with a SATA cable or No?

Just picked up the last one on the shelf. It it 32mb cache and this is the exact drive:
Hitachi Deskstar E7K1000

HD31000 IDK-7K 1TB SATA

Yes it does come with SATA cable and setup screws.

Thanks for reporting back. So the drive's areal density is 244 Gb/in^2, which means it's a 3-platter. Not bad for the price paid.

I doubt it is the E7K1000, please post a real model number such as: HDS721010CLA332
That is not a serial number and all the drives should have the same exact model number. I am thinking it is probably the oldest 7K1000 from 2007 with 32meg cache (the 5-platter drive) and the slowest of the 3 other *7K1000 models.

Why do you doubt it when someone says they just bought one and that's the exact drive??

From the drive I bought Friday - HD310001DK7/7k

Dude, its a $69 1tb hard drive - get over it! You want perfection - spend more money and get exactly want you want. Its a great deal for a reliable large hard drive.

I wouldn't buy a HITACHI hard drive. This is the only brand which gave me trouble. When IBM did not know how to fix the crash issue they sold the hard drive division to HITACHI.

Real intelligent post. How many hardware generations ago was that again ? As though anything in technology remains the same for a month, let alone 4 or 5 years. Buy whatever you like, but no need to thread crap. Even Seagate fumbled the ball on some of their 7200.11's last year.

Actually, I think your drive is HD31000IDK7/7k.

The point of asking for a model number is so that we can know what we are buying. slubfool is completely justified in asking for a model number, especially considering your model number (which is found in some external SimpleTech drives) differs from a previous members' claim of E7K1000. Hitachi has four main generations of 1TB drives, and it would be nice to verify which we're talking about: Deskstar 7K1000.C, Deskstar 7K1000.B, Deskstar E7K1000, Deskstar 7K1000.

So what is it, 5 platters or 8?

Once again. its a $69 1 tb hard drive. I would guess if someone is that concerned about model numbers or how many platters it has, then they should probably go to Fry's to make sure that they get exactly what they want instead of relying on this forum. There might be some differences in stock for the various stores.

Okay this is the official number straight from the drive label:

HDE721010SLA330
Manufactured Aug-2009

That model is definitely the 32mb version but others have gotten the 16mb version in stores.

Who knows what you will receive if you order on-line.

i was at palo alto, ca fry's, the ad says 32mb buffer, but the one for sale was only 16mb buffer. i didn't buy it. i think i should've tho cuz i don't even have a hard drive right now. my hd crapped out on me last wednesday

the 16mb version (7K1000.B) is actually very good and overall much faster than the oldest 32mb version (7K1000). I ordered from Fry's by mail for delivery over the weekend and I hope it is the HDE721010SLA330 (E7K1000) which is the fastest of the 3 models currently available in high quanities. And the 7K1000.C only came out this quarter. Here is a good review of the first 3 models (Hitachi specs are on page 2):

Xbitlabs Review

the product number from the ad shows up as the 16mb buffer model on frys.com
was anyone able to pick up the 32mb buffer model from the bay area for 69.99? which store? thanks a bunch.

I just picked up one of these in Atlanta (North). It is model # HDE721010SLA330, part number #0A38028 with a 32MB buffer. The Hitachi web page lists this from the E7K1000 series, enterprise hard drives. Per various review sites this is a three platter drive.

Hitachi spec sheet says 5-year warranty but when I input my serial number on their support page it came up as only 1-year.

Packed with a SATA cable and screws. Aside from my warranty issue, the E7K1000 should be a better deal than the 7K1000.B as the E7K1000 has a 32MB buffer and also additional anti-vibration features. The $69.99 price ends tonight.

Austin, TX
Just had a chance to open mine today.
32 MB cache
3 yr warranty

HDS721010CLA332 type DS7SAC100
Packaged Nov-2009

which turns out to be the 7K1000.C presumably the latest generation

So if you're looking to pick up one in Austin - it looks to be a good deal

i thought the enteprise drives have the (WD equivalent) of TLER? that would not be good for a consumer unless they've tweaked it back off

Interesting - I checked my SN at the Hitachi website and got a "not valid/please contact vendor" message.

Anyhow I called Hitachi (annoying phone system - hard to hear)
If you press option 1 for Warranty info, the recording tells you to go to the website
pressing 0 is not valid

If you call (1.800.448.2244) Press 3 to get an agent

The warranty error is a glitch they're fixing (real soon now...)
Send email with S/N warranty request at http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/hddemail.htm

Anyhow - this drive is 2 platter and has at least a 3 yr warranty

May go after another one...

Thankyou for this info. My Hitachi 1TB just died last week and the website shows it as out of warranty, but it's only been 1 year. The drive worked great until I took it off line and let it sit for a couple of months. Then I fired it back up and it's frozen...won't even spin up. I'll bet if I left it running it would probably be ok.

Today (12/17) is the last day for this price. It is one per customer. If you need more than one, you need to buy one at the time.

Back to Frys again! 32M 7200 rpm!
